Capels -- Michael W."Mike" Capels, age 30, passed away on October 10, 1999 in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was a resident since 1992. He loved fishing and hunting in Iowa. Mike was born in Albuquerque on October 2, 1969, was a longtime resident and attended schools in Albuquerque until he moved to Iowa. He is survived by his father, William and wife, Nancy Capels of Albuquerque; his mother, Helen and husband, Dale Strong of Tempe, AZ; his sisters, Karen and husband, Kenneth Miller of McKinney, TX, Kathryn and husband, Stewart of Sarasota, FL; his brother, Christopher and wife, Rachelle Capels of Santa Cruz, CA; his nephew, Gregory Miller; and by his niece, Kelly Miller. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 1999, 6:30 p.m., at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church (8600 Academy Rd. NE) with Pastor Larry Moss officiating. Private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Door of Faith Mission, 1006 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50309.

Qualls -- Shirley M. Exter Qualls, born December 15, 1920, passed away early October 19, 1999 after a long illness. She was a native of Albuquerque and the last surviving child of A.J. Exter, pioneer funeral director and humanitarian of the State of New Mexico. She was known widely for her volunteer efforts with disabled and elderly people, as well as her family. She enjoyed watching golf, Jeopardy, and Bob Barker. She was also a talented artist who designed one of the first Harley-Davidson logos. Shirley and her twin sister, Kathryn were talented dancers in their youth and performed at various city events, including the Kimo Theater, Sunshine Theater, and the Albuquerque Little Theater. The Exter twins can also be remembered by the Albuquerque streets, Shirley and Kathryn, which were named after them. She was dearly loved by many friends and family who will miss her quick wit and big smile. She will be laid to rest next to her twin sister, Kathryn Frei, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Atchley and husband, Dan of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Tracy Leonard and Cynthia Staat of Rio Rancho and Travis Leonard and Dena Becker of Albuquerque, Trisha Leonard and Frank Troncosa of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Bobby and Mitchell Carrillo of Rio Rancho, Frankie Troncosa and Jesse Troncosa, both of Albuquerque; niece, Patti Scherer and husband, Jack; and great-nephews, Patrick and Christopher; niece, Lori Carroll and great-nephews, Don and Brandon; niece, Barbi Grace and husband, James and great-nieces, Kathryn and Kristina; nephew, Larry Frei and great-nephews, Jason and Bryan, all of Albuquerque; nephews, Robert Exter of California and Lauren Exter of Canada; and cousin, Ken Current and his son, Steve of Lexington, KY. Sanchez -- Albert F. Sanchez, 49, passed away on October 20, 1999. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Sanchez; father, John F. Sanchez; and brother, Gene Sanchez. He is survived by his mother, Cipriana Sanchez; two daughters, Michelle Sanchez and Marsha Sanchez; six grandchildren, Valerie and Gabriella Sanchez, Archie Ray Marquez, Marcus, Alexis and Briana Sanchez; three sisters, Lugie Lucero, Inez Cordero, Patsy Maldonado; five brothers, Larry, Chris, David, Placido, and Vincent; other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Davis -- John Lawrence"Larry" Davis, 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died Monday, October 18, 1999. He is survived by his so, Rex and wife, Linda of Springtown, TX; daughter, Lisa and husband, Michael of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert L. Davis and wife, Bette of Watkinsville, GA. Mr. Davis was a life member of the VFW #401; American Legion #49; and Fleet Reserve Association Club 200. Garcia -- Mr. Reynaldo C. Garcia, 72, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on October 20, 1999. Mr. Garcia is the beloved husband of 47 years to Mrs. Lupe Garcia. He is also survived by one son, David A. Garcia; one granddaughter, Crystal Garcia; sisters-in-law, Grace Montes and husband, Ray, Patsy Ramirez and fiance, Larry, Helen Diaz and husband, Robert and Christina Chavez and husband, Richard; brothers-in-law, Gus Cardenas and wife, Colleen and Ted Cardenas and wife, Sylvia; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Garcia is preceded in death by his sons, Arthur Garcia and Anthony Garcia. Mr. Garcia was a member of the Catholic Church. A Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korean War. Miller -- Margaret"Margie" Miller, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died Saturday, October 16, 1999. She is survived by her son, Jay Miller and wife, Jeanette of Santa Fe; daughter, Janet Williams of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Melissa Barker and husband, Lloyd and Duncan Miller, all of Scottsdale, AZ, Shari Wickham and husband, Larry, and J.R. Valdez -- Manuela"Nellie" Valdez, 93, born April 8, 1906 to Manuel and Refugio Nevarez of Las Cruces, passed away Sunday, October 17, 1999. She is survived by her children, Arthur Valdez and wife, Betti of Dominican Republic, Martin Valdez and daughter, Bobbie Rivera, both of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Elaine Breen and husband, Larry, Rudy Rivera and wife, Georgia, all of Albuquerque, Valoree Lebron and husband, Ricardo, Valinda Valdez, John Valdez, all of the Dominican Republic, Robert Valdez of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Tom Valdez and wife, Claudia of Atlanta, GA, David Valdez and wife, Cindy of South Lake, TX, Teresa Martin and husband, Billy of Ft. Worth, TX and Vicky Rohana and husband, Salem of Jerusalem, Israel; 16 very special great-grandchildren; numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Valdez; and ten brothers and sisters. Mrs. Valdez was a devout Catholic and a member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and the Queen of Heaven choir. She was involved in many church organizations including Catholic Daughters of America, Altar Society, Eucharistic League of the Blessed Sacrament and Sacred Heart League. She was a true trooper who survived breast cancer and a hospital stay for spinal meningitis. Always a welcoming hostess, she was a true example of a woman after God's heart. Burnett -- Clinton Burnett, 81, of Broadview, NM, passed away October 17, 1999. Clinton was born July 31, 1918 in Bellview, NM, the son of Thomas E. and Mazie (Mitchell) Burnett. He married Mary Frances Green on July 27, 1940 in Clovis. He lived, ranched and farmed in the Bellview, Broadview communities for most of his life. He had lived in Gatesville for six years, where he ranched. He was a member of Broadview Church of Christ. Mr. Burnett is survived by his wife, Frances Burnett of the family home; sons, Larry K. Burnett of Estancia and Michael D. Burnett of Clovis; daughter, Sherry Wellborn of Quemado, NM; brother, Elmer Burnett of Clovis; sister, Pauline Campbell of Clovis; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Williams; brother, Tom Burnett Jr.; and granddaughter, Amanda. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Paul Burwash officiating, and Rev. Leonard Mitchell, assisting. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Clinton Wellborn, Jeff Wellborn, Jared Burnett, Derek Burnett, Christopher Burnett and Dwight Martin.
