DAVIS -- Eda Mae Davis, 91, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2005 in Albuquerque, NM. Eda was born on May 24, 1913 in Copan, OK, and was raised along with her three sisters and brother, throughout Texas and Arizona. Eda's father worked as a black smith in the Midwest and later for the railroad, which offered a broad range of adventure, cultural experiences, and love for a diversity of people and zest for life. After high school, in Texas, she moved to New Mexico, where she attended the University of New Mexico and majored in elementary education. It was at UNM where she discovered her talent and passion for art and the Native American culture. She truly loved N.M. where she played an active role in her community. Eda was an accomplished businesswoman, and while raising her family, opened and operated with her husband, Walton's General Merchandize, in Tijeras Canyon. During WWII, she was given the privilege of making sandwiches for "the soldier boys," and served as postmaster for a time. Eda had a passion and love for humanity, and a strong spiritual life and love for the Lord. Her prayer and spiritual strength set an example for all to follow. Her family often claimed she had a "hotline to God." Eda was a proud member of the Desert Club and celebrated over forty years of sobriety in AA. Eda was instrumental in starting up several AA meetings in Albuquerque, including the first Alateen group for teens of alcoholic parents. She sponsored many in their quest to obtain and maintain sobriety. She always had a positive outlook on life, taught us to laugh in times of trouble, and was a diligent prayer warrior. Not only did she love and pray for those who she knew, but also she had ultimate hope for the world, and prayed for spiritual strength for leaders and people around the world. She had a worldview. She married Bryant Perry Davis, Sr. on September 5, 1958. For those who have loved her, they are truly blessed by her love and passionate hope. Eda has left us with a legacy of wisdom, hope and above all, love. She will sorely be missed. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Kay Lee of Tijeras, NM; sister, Mona L. Parker of Pleasanton, TX; two grandchildren, Bert and his wife Suzi Shilling, and Vanessa Kay and her husband Joseph Pacheco; four great-grandchildren, Richard Pacheco, David Pacheco, James Pacheco and Tavanna Christy; numerous nieces and nephews.
