Herrera -- Tony Manuel Herrera, Jr., 57, a lifetime resident of Manzano, NM, passed away Friday, February 22, 2002. He was born to Antonio B. Herrera Sr. and Manuelita (Greigo) Herrera, April 11, 1944 in Mountainair, NM. He is survived by his mother, Manuelita Herrera of Manzano, NM; his son, Armando Herrera of Mountainair, NM; his daughters, Anna Daniella Herrera, Lucha Herrera, Mariaelena Herrera all of Mountainair, NM; his brothers, Augustine Herrera, Ignacio Herrera and his wife, Francis of Albuquerque, NM, Eddie Herrera, and his wife, Layola of Estancia, Arturo Herrera, Leroy Herrera; his sisters, Tillie Herrera-Brummell, Isabel Sanchez and her husband, Carlos of Albuquerque, Diana Apodaca and her husband, Mike of Highland, CA, Cecila Sanchez and her husband, Art E. of Bend, OR, Gloria Paez and her husband, Eppy; and his seven grandchildren, Dakoda Moorhead, Aasia Moorhead, Montana Moorhead, India Moorhead, Estevez Herrera, Estrella Herrera, Reyez Herrera. Padilla -- Alfredo A. Padilla ¯Big Al¯, 76, a resident of Bernalillo, NM for over forty years, the foundation and strength of our family, was called to be with our heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 19, 2002. Alfredo was born in Springer, NM to Alfredo and Adelina Padilla on July 15, 1925. He was the oldest of eight siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents; his youngest sister, Gloria Padilla; his youngest son, Ernie Padilla; and most recently his favorite brother, Ofelio Padilla, who passed away on February 6, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Elsie Chavez Padilla; three sons, Johnny and wife, Sylvia, Fred and wife, Nadine and Michael Padilla; his grandchildren, Jeff and fiancé, Isabel Flores, Chris, Steve and Diana Padilla; his great-grandchildren, Joshua, Marcus, Destiny, Chris and Shantell Padilla. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Regina Padilla; sisters, Martha Andazola and husband, Simon, Margaret Ponce, Phyllis Duran and husband, Juan; brothers, Joseph Padilla and wife, Maureen and Robert Padilla and wife, Dora. Alfredo served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was employed by Plains Electric Generation & Transmission Co-Operative, Inc. for 43 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo, NM. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 69, the Bernalillo Volunteer Fire Department, Defined Fitness in Rio Rancho, Knights of Columbus, Meadowlark Senior Center and Fishing Club, Rio Rancho/Sandoval County Senior Olympics, Sandoval County Senior Center and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Al enjoyed playing pool and had a passion for fishing, especially on his boat with his brother, Ofelio. Al will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who had the chance to be a part of this great and wonderful man's life. The family extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the Hematology-Oncology Associates, P.C., Presbyterian Hospital ACOP Services and the Presbyterian Hospice Program. Hernandez -- Mr. Tony M. Hernandez born in Dawson, New Mexico on May 4, 1920 went to his eternal home February 9, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Ms. Veronica Hernandez; and grandson, Vicente Hernandez in Avondale, Arizona. Tony served from 1942 to 1945 in the US Army, during WWII. He moved from Dawson to Albuquerque in 1958. Tony is survived by his daughters, Michelle Gillison and husband, Simon, Veronica Hernandez, Victoria Wolf, Isabel Rios, Dolores Blocher and husband, Syd; grandchildren, Renee, Priscilla, Simon J., Monica, Vicente, Lee, Valerie, Carla, Stephanie, and Syd Jr.; great grandchildren, Alyssa and one on the way; spouse, Elva Hernandez and her family; numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2002. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2002. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Funes -- Jose Funes, "Daddy, Tata, Compadre¯ Funes," 79, a longtime resident of Albuquerque was taken home to the Lord on Tuesday, January 29, 2002. He is survived by the love of his life, Maria ¯Chata¯ Funes, they were married for 58 years; children, Felix Funes and wife, Patsy, Michelle Gallegos and husband, Raymond, Maryann Baca, Tony Funes and wife, Alma, Julia Garcia and husband, Sam, Santiago Funes, Clara Dixon and husband, Jim, Theresa Gomez and husband, Ernie, Raymond Funes, Alice Brito, Angel Franco and husband, Louie, Eva Clark and husband, Mark and Monica Salazar and husband, Alex and Crystal Funes; 43 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, like a son, Armando"Chato" Ortiz. His extended family included nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews in his home country of Mexico. Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Felix & Angelita Funes; a son, Juan De La Cruz Funes; four brothers; one sister; and a grandson; Little Ray Gallegos. Jose was very proud of his hometown, he was born on March 28, 1922 in San Francisco del Rincon, Guanajuato. Tata will be remembered for his love and cariño that he showed to everyone. Like his patron saint, St. Joseph, he was also a carpenter and was a master at his trade. His carpentry work can be seen at St. Charles Borromeo Church and also the doors at Sacred Heart Church. "Daddy" left a huge impression on everyone he met and touched many lives. He will be greatly missed. Rosary will be recited, Friday, 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 412 Stover Ave. SW. Friends may visit one hour prior to Rosary at the church. Funeral service will be held, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Deacon Tom Perez officiating. Serrano -- Jose Luciano Serrano, age 90, passed away January 15, 2002 at the Guadalupe County Hospital in Santa Rosa in the arms of his loving family. Luciano was born September 11, 1911 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Simon and Petrita Chavez Serrano. He was reared and attended schools in Santa Rosa. He married Mary Martinez on April 21, 1933 in Santa Rosa. Luciano owned and operated the Coronado Courts in Santa Rosa for several years and was the Truck Line Freight Agent for Navajo and ICX for over 30 years. He was a resident of Albuquerque since 1986 and was a member of the Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church. Luciano loved his family, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and will truly be missed by all. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Serrano in 1990; his great-grandson, Michael Charles Anthony Campos in 1992; and his sister, Eslinda Sanchez in 1994. Survivors include his children, Eddie Serrano and wife, Camilla of Albuquerque, Mary Lou Sanchez and husband, Joe Robert of Las Vegas, NM, Marie Ozila Ortega and husband, Eric of Oxnard, CA, Loretta Campos and husband, Gilbert of Santa Rosa and Pamela McCue of Albuquerque; his grandchildren, Phillip Sanchez and wife, Martha, Marga Sanchez, Sean Ortega, Joshua Ortega,Diane Campos and husband, Henry Skinner, Tim Campos and wife, Juliet, Sharon Campos, Jennifer Tammaro and husband, Scott, Jose Serrano II, Simon Serrano, Miguel Serrano, Melissa McCue and husband Derek Mulner, Jeffrey McCue, Leah McCue; great-grandchildren, Jason Gonzalez and wife, Shelia, Erica Gonzalez, Timothy Campos, Alexandria Campos, Adam Tammaro, Sophia Skinner, Salome Skinner, Nathan Sanchez and Erin Sanchez; great-great-grandchild, Zachary. Clavary Cemetery in Albuquerque. Gallegos -- Mrs. Agnes R. Gallegos died Monday, December 31, 2001 in Albuquerque at the age of 72. Mrs. Gallegos is survived by her husband, Jose S. Gallegos; son, Raymond Romero; sisters, Louisa R. Jones and Mela Castillo; sister-in-law, Mary Francis Chavez; grandchild, Julie Romero; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mrs. Gallegos will be held on Friday at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Benny Chavez, Little Richard, Rudy Martinez, Rudy Garcia, Eloy Whiting and Michael Chavez. Maestas -- Deacon Paul G. Maestas passed away October 23, 2001 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born August 4, 1933 in Gilman, CO. He was a lifelong resident of New Mexico and a resident of Bernalillo for the last 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Emma; his children, Paul Simon Maestas, and wife, Debbie, Steven Maestas, his fiancé, Debbie Weh, Rebecca Maestas-Sanchez, and husband, Michael Sanchez; sister, Mae Roybal; brothers, John Maestas and wife, Nellie, Lee Maestas and wife, Belinda. His grandchildren are, Mateo, Emily, Andres, and Isaac Paul Sanchez, John-Paul and Maria-Elena Maestas. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Albuquerque in 1961. He served his country as a Marine stationed in Korea. He co-founded Mr. Tux Formal Wear in 1962 while coaching and teaching at St. Pius X High School. He later formed Paul Maestas & Associates Realty. In addition to his numerous business interests, he both farmed and ranched raising Register Angus and Llamas. He served as State Deputy of the Knights of Columbus and was a longtime member of council 4227 and the Lamy Corporation. In 1993, he was ordained as a Deacon for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe serving Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. He filled every waking moment of his life with positive activity. He devoted countless hours to the church and his community. His family was particularly proud of his service in the deaconate program. He touched many lives and made our community a better place to live. Services are as follows: Thursday, October 25, 2001 visitation at Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo on Friday, October 26, 2001 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Pallbearers will be Charles Maestas, Julius Duran, Leonard Duran, Henry Geissler, Leon Palmisano, and Isaac Martinez. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Multiple Myeloma Foundation. Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors is entrusted to the care of Mr. Maestas.
