Montoya -- Filemon A. Montoya, 72, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2002 in Socorro, NM. He was born May 11, 1930 to Petrita and Ramon Montoya in Socorro, NM. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was retired from the NM National Guard. He was the former owner of the Rathskeller Lounge and Phil's W. He was a devoted employee of the Socorro Senior Center where he brought much happiness, even if it meant breaking a few rules. Phil knew the art of storytelling and told wonderful jokes. He loved to be around people and people loved to be around him. He was quite an entertainer. Phil loved his family, both immediate and extended. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Philip; siblings, George, Leandro and Betty; and son-in-law, Danny Shields. He is survived by his daughters, Ann Leviner and husband, Jim of Socorro, Bernadette Gonzales and husband, Raymond of Las Cruces, NM, wife, Isabel of Socorro; life partner, Linda Perdue of Socorro; brothers, Herman and wife, Cecilia, Joey and wife, Diana and Able and wife, Dolores; sisters, Emily Mathieu and husband, Dave, Judy Silva, Rosie Garcia and husband, Frank; grandchildren, Stephen Apodaca, Sara-Brianna Shields and fiance, Simon Ocampo, Sean Apodaca and Genesis Leviner. Rosary was recited on Friday, August 30, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel with Father John Daniel as Celebrant. Interment will be in the San Miguel Cemetery. Pallbearers are Raymond Gonzales, Jim Leviner, Stephen Apodaca, Sean Apodaca, Adrian Landavazo and Raymond Romero. Honorary Pallbearers are all of Phil's nephews. Chavira -- Joe G. Chavira, 85, a resident of Adelino died Tuesday, August 27, 2002 after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Genoveva; his six daughters and son-in-laws, Stella and Eddie Johnson; Becky and Ruben Jaramillo; Tina and Pat Jaramillo; Prescilla and Sam Johnson; Magdalen and Steve Sanchez; and Geraldine and Edward Crespin; and his daughter-in-law, Marcella Chavira; his grandchildren, Twila and Larry Archibeque; Cynthia and Rick Chavez; Jude Baca; Bennie Chavira; Kevin and Dodie Jaramillo; Joseph and Paulette Jaramillo; Rachael and Jason Selph; Lori and Dwayne Tafoya; Albert Sanchez; Raymond and Rokeya Jaramillo; Melanie Sanchez; Jose Chavira; Steven Ben Sanchez; and Shannon and Edward Jr.; his great grandchildren, Jessica, Clara and Renne; Jessica and Robert; Jude, Vanessa and Desire; Christopher; Kevin Issac and Crystal; Adrianna and Selina; Stephen and Gabriella; Ryan, Leanne and Jordyn; and Isabella; his great-great grandchildren, Kayla, Alex and Angelina; his brother, Elias Chavira; and his sisters, Maria and Fermin Vallejos and Margarat Lucero. Joe was owner and operator of Joe Chavira Plumbing and Heating for over 30 years. He also retired from the Sandia Laboratory in Albuquerque after 23 years of dedicated service. The rosary will be recited Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 6:00pm with a viewing beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Tome. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Tome. Burial will be at the Tome Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his son-in-laws. Saiz -- Josefina Saiz, 90, a lifelong resident of Alameda, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2002. Josefina was born July 21, 1912 the daughter of Guillermo and Julianita Gutierrez Tenorio in Corrales, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fernando Saiz on March 18, 2002. Josefina is survived by her children, Rosemary DeVargas and husband, Arthur, Carmen Gutierrez and husband, Benito, Isabel Rodarte, Veronica Lovato and husband, Frank, Julia Tafoya and Vidal Mora; one brother, Guillermo Tenorio; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. The Visitation for Josefina will be held today, Thursday, August 29, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Autust 30, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque. Pallbearers will be Carlo DeVargas, Frank Gutierrez, Andrew Gutierrez, Walter Rodarte, Robert Rodarte and Simon Saiz. Mazon -- Escolastico Mazon, age 89 passed away in Albuquerque after a lengthy illness. He was born July 17, 1913 to Escolastico Mazon and Sylvestrita Garcia Mazon in Atarque, New Mexico. Mr. Mazon was a veteran serving in World War II. He owned and operated the Monte Carlo Cafe in Grants for 50 years. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, and he was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Mazon is survived by; his three sons, Jerry Mazon and his wife, Marie of Albuquerque, Raymond Mazon of Albuquerque, Alex Mazon and His partner, Bud Chapman of Baton Rouge, LA; two brothers, Nick Mazon and his wife, Lucy of Gallup, Manuel Reyes Mazon of Gallup; one sister, Tita Garcia and her husband, Hilario of Gallup. He also leaves behind; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by; his wife, Seferina Mazon; one son, Andrew Mazon; seven brothers, José Leon Mazon, Lorenzo Mazon, Robert Mazon, Simon Mazon, Petacio Mazon, Melquides Mazon, Hilario Mazon; his sister, Virginia Chavez. A visitation will be held Monday August 26, 2002, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Grants Mortuary Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday August 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Alberto Avella officiating. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park. Romero -- Nora E. Romero, age 87, passed away August 11, 2002 at the Meadow's Nursing Home in Las Vegas, NM. Nora was born November 2, 1914 in Cuervo, NM to the home of Simon and Genoveva Baca Romo. She married Joe V. Romero February 1, 1937 in Newkirk, NM. Nora and Joe made their home in Santa Rosa in the mid 1940's. Nora worked for Teeters Department store, Medley's Cafe and with her brother-in-law, Dale Bartz at the Santa Rosa Drug. She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and was active in the Sacred Heart Society, the Altar Society and while her children were attending St. Rose School she was active in the St. Joseph's Guild. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; her brothers and sister, Cristobal Romo, Napoleon Romo and Annie Bartz; her grandson, Louie Sanchez; and her son-in-law, Leroy Ulibarri. Survivors include her son, Philip J. Romero and wife, Geraldine of Las Vegas; her daughters, Mary Esther Ulibarri of Las Vegas, Bertha Marrujo and husband, Larry of Tularosa, Gloria Sanchez and husband, Louie of Glorieta and Betty Jo Cockrell and husband, Larry of Las Vegas. Also surviving are her sisters, Della Mynaugh and husband, Charlie of Los Alamos and Mary Marquez of Las Vegas; her brother, Benny Romo and wife, Patsy of Las Cruces; brothers, and sisters-in-law, Dale Bartz of Texas, Alice Romo of San Antonio, TX, Ramona Sena of San Antonio, Guadalupe Garcia, Arthur Romero and wife, Mary, Eddie Romero, Freddy Romero and wife, Maryann all of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends. Rosary Services will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Rose Church in Santa Rosa. Teeter -- Michael S. Teeter, 58 a Fort Sumner businessman died Friday, August 9, 2002 at his home. He was born October 1, 1943 in Las Vegas, NM the son of Ronald and Mildred B. Teeter. He attended school at Santa Rosa, NM and graduated from New Mexico Military Institute. Michael married Anna Martz on November 24,1962 in Fort Sumner. He attended Arizona State University where he received a business degree. Following graduation from ASU, he worked for General Foods in Albuquerque for two years before returning to Fort Sumner where he and Anna owned and operated Teeter's Department Store; he also served as senior partner of High Plains Aircraft Decorators at the Fort Sumner Industrial Air Park. In 1981 he began Mike Teeter Insurance Agency, Inc. in Fort Sumner; the business grew to Santa Rosa and Moriarty and was renamed Insurance Services of New Mexico in 2000. Mike served on the Fort Sumner Village Council; he also served one term as Mayor was a member of Rotary Club where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. Mike served on the Eastern New Mexico Natural Gas Board; was a past volunteer firefighter he also served a year as NM State Senator. Mike served as past president of ENMR/Plateau Communications and was currently serving as Secretary of the Board of Directors. Mike and his wife Anna served as associate pastors of Christ Full Gospel Church,"The Church on the Hill" he became senior pastor in 1992. Mike was a member of the Fort Sumner Ministerial Alliance, and was active with the Prison Fellowship program at Guadalupe County Correction Center for the past 4 years. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and friend who gave his heart and soul to his church. Mike enjoyed golfing, reading, snow skiing and swimming. Survivors include his wife of 39 years Anna Teeter of the home in Fort Sumner; two daughters Michele Finch and husband Carl of Dalhart, TX; Christie Lyssy and husband Jim of Fort Sumner, NM; four grandchildren Maegan Finch, Caleb Finch, Candace Lysy, and Micah Lyssy; one sister Ronda Maloney of Friendswood, TX; his mother-in-law Annabel Martz of Fort Sumner along with one niece and four nephews. The casket will be closed at the service. Friends and family may visit Chavez Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2002 at The Church on the Hill with Brother Pete Jaramillo officiating. Burial will follow in the Teeter family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Buddy Cortese, George Gonzales, Lee Koll, Tim Archuleta, Rafael Roybal, Simon Lucero, Michael Foth, and Marion Sena. Garcia -- Frances Garcia was born in Albuquerque, NM. July 21, 1956. She went home to be with the Lord August 5, 2002, after a long illness. Frances was a wonderful homemaker, devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt. She was viewed as a mother figure by all of her nieces and nephews. Frances enjoyed singing, listening to music, and worshipping the Lord. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Luz Joe Garcia of the family home; son, Jonathan Benino Garcia and fiancé, Christina Morales; step-son, Ronnie Garcia; mother and father, Stella and Simon Ayala all of Albuquerque; two brothers, Adam Libario of California, and Joseph Ayala of Albuquerque; three sisters, Mary Jacquez and husband, Pedro, Beatrice Sanchez and husband, Raymond, Sally Arellano and husband, Fred all of Albuquerque; numerous family, friends, nieces, and nephews who she was very close to. Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW. on Friday, August 9, 2002. Gallegos -- Jose S. Gallegos died Sunday July 21, 2002 in Albuquerque at the age of 72. He is survived by his son, Raymond Romero; daughter-in-law, Rosalie Garcia. Three brothers, Vince, Jake and Andres Gallegos; two sisters, Mary Chavez, Esmeralda Perkowski; one sister-in-law, Louisa R. Jones; and one grandchild, Julie Romero.
