Vanbibber -- Burl E. VanBibber ¯Van¯, 78, a resident of Albuquerque died Thursday, November 2, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy VanBibber of Albuquerque; children, Teresa A. Stevens and husband, Robert of Albuquerque, Marilyn¯DiDi Shaffer and husband, William of El Paso, TX., Michael L. VanBibber and wife, Beverly of Albuquerque, Patrick A. VanBibber of Houston, TX. and Clinton J. VanBibber of California; grandchildren, June A. Smith and husband, Andy, Sharon K. Uribe and husband, Arturo, Jr., Michelle L. Thomas and husband, Bob; Deborah J. Montgomery and husband, Mark, Suzanne D. Shaffer, Alyssandra M. Shaffer and Sarah VanBibber; great-granddaughter, Kayla A. Uribe; sister, Twila Bennett of Missouri and Mary Lou Rivera and husband, Joe of Arizona. He served in the Marine Corp during World War II, and was injured on Saigon. Mr. VanBibber returned to Albuquerque where he worked for AT&T for 44 years. He was a member of VFW #431, Military Order of the Purple Heart and Marine Corp. League. Memorial services will be held Monday, 12:00 p.m. at Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise Blvd. NW, with Pastor David Snyman officiating. Palmer -- Rachel Major Palmer, age 92, passed away October 29, 2000 at Paloma Blance Nursing home in Albuquerque. She was born June 22, 1908 in Ryan OK, the sixth of eight children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stubby, son, Jay Howard, son-in-law, Larry Current, two sisters, three brothers, and two nieces. She is survived by two daughter's, Anna Jane Current of Clovis, and Mary Edith Hopkins of Albquerque; four grandchildren, Gale Current of Clovis and her finance, Scott Cunico of Las Vegas, Karen Current of Albuquerque, Craig Exum and Summer Robles of Albuquerque, Michael Exum and wife, Kit of Arizona; two sisters, Louise Major of Albuquerque, and Leta Smith of Wichita, KS. She was a very active member in the Estanci community, especially her church and the local FFA chapter. One of her most special projects was making molasses cookies to give to all the FFA and 4-H kids year round. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2000 at 2:00 pm in Estancia at the Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Estancia Methodist Church or your favorite charity.

Brooks -- Thomas J. Brooks, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1937, died Wednesday, November 1, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Florence Brooks of Albuquerque; son, Albert C. Brooks and wife, Diane of Houston, TX; daughter, Cheryl Smith and husband Chris, of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Angela Pender, Clayton Brooks and Shannon Brooks; and brother, Jim Brooks of Wilmington, NC. Thomas was preceded in death by six brothers; and five sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired in 1982 after working 30 years for Sandia Labs. He was a member of Coronado Club, Kirtland AFB, past member of The Elks Club, and one of the founding members of the Sandia Roadrunners RV Club. Services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Colonel Lemuel M. Boyles U.S.A.F. (Ret.). Trice -- Calvin R. Trice went home to be with Jesus on October 28, 2000 surrounded by his loving family, in Clovis, New Mexico. Cal was born on February 5, 1928, in Pampa, Texas, to the late Ralph O. Trice and Maybel Brown Trice. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty Jo Owens Trice of Clovis; his children, Richard Calvin Trice, of Raton, NM, Cheryl Kay Wills, of Muleshoe, Texas, and Jeffrey David Trice, of Fort Worth, Texas; five brothers and sisters, including Murrell Cooper, Kathryn Rodriguez, and Ralph J. Trice, all of Hobbs, New Mexico, Donald R. Trice, of Jal, New Mexico, and Barbara Wilder of Denver City, Texas; six grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mildred Greer, and his stepmother, Katherine Bartlett Trice. Cal retired in 1986 as Superintendent of the Clovis Schools, following 32 years of dedicated service and positions at all levels of education in New Mexico, including teacher and administrator in the Hobbs Schools, Superintendent of the Jal Schools, and as a Specialist with the State Department of Education in Santa Fe. He also held administrative positions with the Department of Defense Dependent's Schools in Germany from 1962 to 1968; and as Executive Director of Economic Development in Clovis from 1986-1988. Cal graduated from high school at Denver City, Texas, served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1946-1949, held a Bachelor of Science degree from Hardin-Simmons University, and a Masters degree from Eastern New Mexico University. He was a member of Parkland Baptist Church in Clovis, past president of the Clovis Rotary Club, past president of the Clovis Chamber of Commerce, member of Phi kappa Phi Academic, Honor Society, and was elected to the New Mexico Education Hall of Fame in 1986. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2000 at Parkland Baptist Church, Clovis, New Mexico, with Doug Brooks & Rick Trice officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens, Clovis. Casketbearers will be Clint Tidenberg, Hewel Jones, Charles Dodson, Roy Hollingsworth, Jack Lancaster, Coke Cates and Joe Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Pullman, Delman Shirley, Dick Sullinger, Ned Wright, J.L. Smith and Jim McDaniel. Rodgers -- Travis F. Rodgers passed away Saturday, October 28, 2000, at home in Bakersfield, California, at the age of 66. Travis devoted his life to teaching his children. He lived in New Mexico for 45 years because of the his love for the area and the people. He is survived by his children, Anna Murillo and husband, Dan of Bakersfield, CA, Rebecca Adams and husband, Mike of Abingdon, VA, Timothy Rodgers and wife, Hiedi of Phoenix, AZ, Patrick Rodgers of Farmington, NM, Jennifer Smith and husband, Jon of Corrales, NM; brothers, Gene Rodgers and wife, Mary of Vici, OK, Cecil Rodgers and wife, Helen of Alvarado, TX, Jimmy Rodgers and wife, Bessie of Mansfield, TX; daughter-in-law, Amy Rodgers of Oroville, CA; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara (Brown) Rodgers and son, Travis N. Rodgers, father, Murray and mother, Mary (Smith) Rodgers and brothers, Norman and Oliver Rodgers. Collins -- Burt H. Collins, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1959, died on Wednesday, October 25, 2000. Mr. Collins is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Rudolph Collins of Albuquerque; sons, Kevin Collins, Brian Collins and wife, Heather, and Boo (Eric) Collins, all of Albuquerque; daughters, Colleen Young, of Albuquerque, Janeen Cobb, of Conroe, TX, Pinky Lindeman and husband, Mark, of Monument, CO, Dolly Smith and husband, Mac, of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, David Young, Katrina Young, Peter Young, Carla Cobb, Sarah Cobb, Evie Cobb, J.B. Cobb, Eric Lindeman, and Megan Lindeman; brothers Charles P. Collins and wife, Anne, of Sun City Center, FL, and Rev. T. Byron Collins SJ, of Georgetown University, Washington D.C. Burt was a member of Annunciation Parish since it's inception and a retired Air Force Lt. Col. Ten days ago Burt and Mary returned from a two month RV trip and they celebrated their 53rd Anniversary three days ago. He was a great husband, terrific father, and a caring grandfather. All will miss him dearly. A memorial mass will be held Saturday October 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church, 2610 Utah NE, with Mary's brother, Rev. Fred Rudolph, SVD, celebrant. Smith -- Lois L Smith, 75, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died on Friday, October 20, 2000 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lois is survived by her daughters, June Cash and husband, Robert of Indianapolis, IN. and Judy R Smith of McLean, VA; son, Duane Smith and wife, Caroline Gupton of Temple, TX; grandchildren, Jay Miller, Deanna Miller, Ian Groves and wife, Yvette, Kirsty Archuleta and husband, Daniel, and Nicole Smith; great-granddaughter, Shay Lee Archuleta. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, V. Keith Smith in 1998. Lois was a longtime member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. She was past president of the Sanado Women's club as well as the Chapter A.N. of P.E.O. Sisterhood. Ms. Smith was active in many 0rganizations including the Tumbleweeds RV group and several Bridge clubs. Landess -- Ruth Landess, 76, born on November 23, 1923, passed away on October 23, 2000 after a long illness. Ruth lived in Albuquerque for the past 65 years. Her husband, Asborn Eugene Landess, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Patsy Wilhelm of Albuquerque; brother Rey Bell of Amarillo, TX; her daughter, Nelda Smith and husband Don of Chaparral, NM; son David Landess and wife Paula of Santa Theresa, NM; daughter Darlene Gonzales and husband Frankie of Albuquerque; daughter Dottie Harland of Albuquerque; son John Landess and wife Kim of New Buffalo, MI; and son, Michael Landess and wife Karen of Albuquerque. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was happiest when surrounded by her family. She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother. Ruth loved the Lord and has now joined Him in Heaven. In Lieu of flowers, the family would like donations sent to the Diabetes Foundation. Visitation will be at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal SE from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26 and from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27. Services will be held in the Palm Chapel on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Sandia Memorial Gardens on 9500 San Pedro NE.
