SCHER -- Jeanne N. Scher, 81, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2008, after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born Norma Jeanne Nonken, on August 23,1927, in Peabody, Kansas. Raised in El Dorado, Kansas, she left following graduation to pursue a higher education. After obtaining a Masters Degree, she spent over 20 years teaching youth--from the severely disabled, to the gifted-- in El Dorado, KS, Los Alamos, NM, and Albuquerque, NM. She is survived by three daughters; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many, many friends and relatives; and her beloved dogs, Ripley and Shatara. She worked relentlessly for equality. She will be remembered for her love of gardening, books, and clear, sunny days. A Celebration of Her Life will take place on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Aspen Funeral Alternatives, 1935 Juan Tabo Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87112. BOWEN -- Mahota R. Bowen, 86, a resident of Los Lunas, died Saturday, January 3, 2009. She was born November 10, 1922 in House, NM. She is survived by her son, Robert L. Caruthers; daughter, Betty C. McDaniel; grandson, Travis McDaniel; granddaughter, Angi and her son, Brandon; and brother, V.A. Robertson. At the age of five, the first of 24 nephews and nieces was born. There are many great-nephews and great-nieces, and many great-greats. Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her father, J.A. Robertson; mother, Estella B. Robertson; sisters, Edith R. Beevers, Alma R. Herber, Faye R. Wallace, Lois R. Findley and Algerene R. Krenkel; and brother, J.M. Robertson. On September 7, 1969, Mahota and Herbert J. Bowen were married. The family now includes Leland Bowen, Mary Nell B. Daughtrey, Herb's children; Bryan Bowen and Karen Bowen, Leland's children; Rachel and Kevin Daughtrey, Mary's children. She was also great-grandmother to the children of Bryan, Rachel and Kevin. Services will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. CABASIER -- Juanita Rose Cabasier, age 76, was born July 31, 1932 in Carlinville, IL. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Sunday, January 4, 2009. Juanita worked as an Office Manager for a medical center, retiring after over 20 years of service. She will be remembered as a loving woman who was very active as a church greeter at Lighthouse Baptist Church, and prior to that, a greeter at Fellowship Baptist. Juanita will be fondly remembered for her love of travel, her great organizational skills and her outgoing personality. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Cabasier; her parents, Glenn and Mildred Fluckey; her two daughters, Roselyn Kay and Gloria Jean and her sisters, Betty Mae and Sandra Jean. She is survived by her two sons, Frank Cabasier of Rio Rancho, NM, Philip Cabasier and wife Sharon of Bullhead City, AZ; three daughters, Mary Mleczko and husband Richard of Albuquerque, Theresa Cabasier of Albuquerque, Nancy Ellington and husband David of San Jose, CA; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other family members and numerous church family and friends who loved her and will miss her. Visitation and Services will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 4001 12th St. NW, three blocks north of Candelaria, on Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Dr. Larry E. Kennedy will officiate. JARAMILLO -- Ernesto Jaramillo, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, age 80, went to rest peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2009. Ernesto was born April 22, 1928 in Juan Tomas, NM. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque and worked in concrete construction industry for many years. He enjoyed hunting, singing, playing his guitar in the church choir, making puzzles, and playing cards. Ernesto is preceded in death by his parents, Abenicio and Anna Maria Jaramillo; brother Manuel; two sisters, Eduwigen and Teresita. He is survived by his wife, Emilia of 62 years; children, Elba and husband, Joe, Deluvina and husband, Acasio, Corina and husband, Melcor, Rudy and wife, Sophie, Annie and husband, Elias, Marylou, Gloria and husband, Guadalupe, and David; twenty-five grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carlos and wife, Carmelita, Luis and wife, Marcella; sister, Reyes and husband, Anselmo. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends who loved him and will miss him. A Rosary will be recited at San Ignacio Parish Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Communion Service will be held Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. also at San Ignacio Parish, 1300 Walter, NE. LUJAN -- Theodore Lujan, 73, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on January 3, 2009. Mr. Lujan is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mrs. Marie Yvonne Lujan; his children, Patrick Lujan, Jerald Lujan and wife, Sandy, and Charlotte Viola Lujan-Lovato and husband, Victor; his sisters, Rachel Silva, Erlinda Ortiz and husband, Tony, Elvira Dietz and husband, Art, and Theresa Lujan and husband, Tony; grandchildren, Amber, Jason, Joshua, Adelina, Francisco and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Antonio, Santiago and MariaElena; and a large extended family of brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Lujan was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Dolores Lujan; his brothers, Juan, Andres, Castulo, Tobias and Bonifacio. Mr. Lujan was a member of the Catholic Church; a member of the Knights of Columbus, third degree; Moose Lodge life member; and Fraternal Order of Police life member. MARSHALL -- Phyllis Darlene Buske Marshall, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, age 71, passed away peacefully in her home on January 1, 2009. Phyllis was born on February 15, 1937 in Rochester, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Inez Buske, brothers Richard Buske and William Buske, and sister Janet Mathews. MATA -- Isabel E. Mata, was called by the Lord to go to Heaven on January 4, 2009. She was born in Torreon, New Mexico on November 7, 1945. She is survived by her husband Miguel Mata; and her daughter Juana Mata; two brothers; six sisters; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She will be dearly missed. NICOVICH -- Philip Anthony Nicovich passed away January 4, 2009 in Albuquerque. He was born April 30, 1919 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Philip and Henrietta Toso-Nicovich. Philip graduated from the Delgado Trade School in New Orleans as an Aeronautical Engineer. He married Iris Ohlsen in 1941, and together they moved to Los Alamos, where Philip became part of the Manhatten Project. They later moved to Albuquerque and Philip retired from Sandia National Labs after 35 years of service. Philip also served as the Chairman of the National Drafting Standards Committee and traveled internationally in this capacity. He is survived by his son Jon and wife Starla of Sandia Park; and daughter Marilyn Caudle of Benbrook, Texas; grandchildren, Keith and Justin Nicovich of Sandia Park, New Mexico and Stacy Gottlieb; and great-grandchild Alexa Gottlieb of Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife Iris. RAEL -- Jose Manuel Rael, age 65, passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Jose Manuel was born September 29, 1943 in Clayton, NM. Jose proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam conflict. Jose continued throughout his life to assist his fellow veterans in any way that he could. He was very generous of heart and had an outrageous sense of humor. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Jose was preceded in death by his son, Cruse; his parents, Rosendo and Virginia Rael; two sisters, Pauline Moreland, Jean and her husband Jim Taney; three brothers, Charlie, Joe and Richard.
