MORRIS -- Christopher L. "Chris" Morris, 32, born September 3, 1976, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, December 30, 2008 after a long fought battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Meredith; his daughters, Emily, Lexus, and baby Sakari. His parents Joe and JoAnn Morris; only brother, Phil Morris, all of Albuquerque; also numerous relatives and many friends. A Rosary will be recited Friday, January 9, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd NE. Reception to follow at Church Hall. Interment will follow reception at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. at 1:00 p.m. Special thanks to everyone at UNM Cancer and Research Center, all the Angels at Ambercare Hospice, and all who kept him in their thoughts, and prayers. PADILLA -- Nora Padilla, born January 29, 1915, passed away at age 93 on January 6, 2009 surrounded by her loving family at home. She was the wife of the late Alfonso L. Padilla and a former resident of Santa Rosa, NM where she lived for 81 years prior to her move to Albuquerque. Nora was born in Juan De Dios, NM to the late Victoriano and Lucinda Fajardo. She was preceded in death by her brothers Victoriano, Jose, Doroteo and sister Celina Fajardo; sons baby Hilario, Daniel, Gilbert and Reynaldo (Rayne) Padilla. She is survived by a sister Dolores and her husband John Solano; sons Floyd Padilla and wife Helen, Orlando Padilla, Victor Padilla and wife Margaret, Larry Padilla and wife Barbara; daughters Flora and her husband Raul Garcia, Agneda Casaus with whom she resided, Vera and her husband David Estrada, Marie and her husband Joe Villanueva, Judy and her husband Robert Myklak; daughters-in-law Cecilia Padilla and Linda Padilla. Also surviving are 38 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. Nora was a devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She was a grand homemaker whose joy in life was cooking for her family and friends, spending time with her children and taking care of her beautiful flowers that adorned her home. She was a devout Catholic, a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Albuquerque, The Women's Guild, The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Ct Santa Rosa de Lima in Santa Rosa and a member of El Sagrado Corazon. Rosary Services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., also from St. Rose Church with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be Patrick Padilla, Adam Padilla, Rick Padilla, Dr. Chris Padilla, Andrew Padilla, Jerry Cordova, Ernest Padilla. RAEL -- Jose Manuel Rael, age 65, passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Jose Manuel was born September 29, 1943 in Clayton, NM. Jose proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam conflict. Jose continued throughout his life to assist his fellow veterans in any way that he could. He was very generous of heart and had an outrageous sense of humor. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Jose was preceded in death by his son, Cruse; his parents, Rosendo and Virginia Rael; two sisters, Pauline Moreland, Jean and her husband Jim Talley; three brothers, Charlie, Joe and Richard. RAMBES -- Emilio L. Rambes, 84, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. Emilio is preceded in death by his beloved wife Clara; his sons Lawrence "Larry" A. Rambes and wife Mary Ann Rambes and Richard M. Rambes; brothers Lawerence, Max and sisters Mary, Tocha and Antonia. He is survived by his daughter Pearl A. Maldonado and his son Robert J. Rambes, his 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, his sister Linda "Mellie" "Auntie Sugar" Garcia her husband Louie and daughter Teresa "Tessie", his brothers Joe Rambes, Larry B. Rambes and wife Pauline. Emilio was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and drew as much joy from life as is humanly possible, above all he loved his family without end and greatly enjoyed time spent making and selling his redwood signs and upholstery. Emilio was a staunch patriot who was extremely proud of his sons service to their country. He was retired from the Whitmire Mill (sawmill), union # 2867 as well as from construction, local union # 16. A visitation will be held at the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary on Thursday, January 8, 2009 beginning at 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited by Deacon Edgar Torres, also at the 8th St. Chapel Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dennis Garcia at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church in Old Town on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Interment following at Mt. RYAN -- Thomas J. Ryan, age 78, a resident of Albuquerque, NM and The Woodlands, TX, passed away Friday, January 2, 2009. He was born in Dubuque, Iowa and moved to Albuquerque in 1954 after serving two years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He attended Loras Academy, Loras College and Bayless Business College in Dubuque before going to work for the Dubuque Thrift Plan as Assistant Manager. He was employed by the Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union in Albuquerque as Assistant Manager from 1954 to 1958 and by First Financial Credit Union (formerly Albuquerque Bell Federal Credit Union) and Credit Union Services, their subsidiary, as President, from 1958 to 1990 when he retired. During his credit union years, he served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions for 12 years. Serving as Chairman of numerous committees and receiving their Legislative award in 1976 and Professional of the year award in 1981. He also served on the Board of Directors of the NM Credit Union League for three years receiving their Outstanding Credit Union Leader Award and the Chairman's Club Award from the Credit Union Executives Society. As President of First Financial Credit Union his accomplishments were numerous and still evident in New Mexico credit unions today. He devised an open end loan process that many credit unions still use which was promoted by the NM Credit Union League. He was Instrumental in the construction of the Credit Union's Headquarters building at 601 Tijeras, N.W., Albuquerque, NM. Services were expanded to include checking accounts, certificates of deposits safe deposit boxes, credit cards and ATMs. He trademarked the ATM "CU Anytime" logo so all credit unions in New Mexico could utilize and join a common network. He incorporated the first credit union services corporation in New Mexico so member services could be expanded even to include the sale of securities, mutual funds and insurance products. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Emmitt Ryan; mother Jennie Ryan of Dubuque, Iowa and brother David Ryan of San Angelo, TX. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Ryan; son Stephen Ryan of Albuquerque; daughter Linda Parks and husband Scott of The Woodlands, TX; son James Ryan and wife Deborah of Rio Rancho, NM; son William Ryan and wife Chris of Matthews, NC; daughter Judy Apel and husband Francis of Stoughton, WI; and daughter Jennifer Spear and husband Dean of Rio Rancho, NM; brother Roger Ryan and his wife Marian of Cerritos, CA; sister Virginia "Ditzy" Bakewell of Gilbert, AZ; sister-in-law Mary Alyce of San Angelo, TX; sister Marilyn Zurek of Omaha, NE; sister Geri Ryan of Dubuque, IA and sister Marjorie Shaver of Battle Creek, MI. He was also survived by thirteen grandchildren Kari & Kristi Parks; Jason & Alan Ryan; Jenna & Jeramie Ryan; Zoe, Thomas, Rebekah & Benjamin Apel; Matthew, Sarah & Michelle Spear. He was a member of The Shrine of Saint Bernadette Catholic Church for 50 years, serving on the Building Committee when the original church and hall were built. He was also a Lector and Eucharistic Minister for many years. He loved to play golf with his friends Jerry, Ray, Erick and Cliff. Visitation will be held Friday, January 9, 2009, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Daniels Family Funeral Services. SWANSON -- Alvis A. B. Swanson, 88, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on January 3, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque. Mr. Swanson was born on April 19, 1920 to Arthur and Bessie (Holley) Swanson of Pontotoc, MS. Mr. Swanson served our country in the U.S. Army from November 1941 until his Honorable Discharge in September of 1945. In the Army he began his career in the 99th Chemical Mortar Battalion. He was also a truck driver specialist and rifle sharp shooter. During his military career, Mr. Swanson earned the EAME Service Ribbon, three Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and a Distinguished Unit Badge. He married his sweetheart, Flora McGee, on December 25, 1945. This past Christmas, they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. They had three children, A.B. Swanson, Gloria Ann Swanson, and Ted Wayne Swanson. Mr. Swanson was a farmer and truck driver and his sons maintain the ranch today. He was an avid hunter. Above all, he developed a close and personal relationship with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. He was an active member of the Avalon Church of Christ. Mr. Swanson is preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Swanson, in 1969. He is survived by his wife, Flora Swanson, of Albuquerque, NM; sons, A.B. Swanson and Ted Wayne Swanson, both of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren. Bradley Dean, Kenneth DeWees, and Shadhan Catherine Ann Swanson; great-grandchildren, Jordan Jaramillo, Aiden Bradley Kenneth Wayne Swanson; siblings, Lottie Pearl Renfro, Dottie Pearl Dotson, and Harrison Swanson. A Viewing and Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the Palm Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave SE. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. also in the Palm Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services. VENTERS -- Ardeth Zelda Venters departed this world peacefully at The Garland House in Albuquerque, NM and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. She suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the past several years. A resident of Albuquerque, Ardeth was born August 6, 1922 in Lebanon, CO, to Myrtle (McCurry) and Roy Dickerson. She married Clifford Venters October 26, 1939 in Gallup NM. Ardeth's first jobs in Cortez were at the Ben Franklin Dime Store and the Moffitt Drug Store. During World War II, she was a switchboard operator for the Telephone Company in Cortez. She and Clifford lived in Colorado until they relocated to Albuquerque, NM, in 1962. Ardeth retired from Kirkland AFB where she was a Telephone Operator. They lived for a time in Los Lunas and Belen, NM. She was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and attended the Assemblies of God Church where ever she lived. The high point of her life was caring for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Venters; her sisters, Elnora Thompson and Alma McGechie; brother, LaVelle Sheppard; and her parents. She is survived by her sons, Darren and his wife, Paula, of Green Valley AZ, Cornell and his wife, Suzanna, of Lancaster, TX, Keith and his wife, Kathy, of Reno, NV; daughters, Nelda and son-in-law, Jerry Magnusson, of Knoxville, TN, and Lawanna Perez of Albuquerque NM. She had 19 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Ardeth will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. Services will be held at Evangel Christian Center, (505-883-1300) 4501 Montgomery NE, Albuquerque, NM with Pastor Raymond Franks presiding on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow the Service at Sandia Memorial Gardens, 9500 San Pedro Dr NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111. WHALEN -- Sunee Whalen, 65, long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. Sunee was born in Bangkok, Thailand on May 5, 1943 and moved to the United States in her early twenties. She is survived by her husband of 28 years Robert; daughter, Irene F. Berry; five sisters and one brother. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
