LEONARD -- Jason Fred Leonard passed away December 14, 2005, in his Albuquerque home due to severe asthmatic conditions. Jason was born December 10, 1973, in La Mirada, CA to Philip and Jacquelyn Leonard. He was raised in Santa Maria where he attended high school and furthered his education at UVSC in Provo, UT, and completed his education for a private pilot's license during that time. Jason served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Tucson, Arizona Mission. He married Marla Rogers of Alamogordo, NM in June 1995 for Time and Eternity in the San Diego Temple. Jason and Marla had three children; Creed Michael Leonard age, 3 1/2, Sway Victoria Leonard, age 2, and Cross R. Leonard six months of age. Jason was a dedicated family man, and his family was his life. They will always love him and mourn his passing. He was President in charge of Verizon Communications at Alert Cellular for the past several years, and his position took them to several states making their home in Utah, Washington, Texas, and New Mexico. Survivors include his wife and children of the family home; his parents of Santa Maria, CA, his sisters, Jill Smith and husband, David of Missouri; Julianne Leonard of Santa Maria, CA; James Leonard of Santa Maria, CA; fathers- and mothers-in-law, Michael and Vicki Rogers of Alamogordo, NM; Jenny Moody and husband, Bret of Las Cruces, NM; Matt Rogers of Albuquerque, NM; Katie Duncan and husband, Michael of Great Falls, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews and close family and friends. Service will take place on Monday, December 19, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kachina Ward, 6009 Kachina Rd. NW. GARCIA -- William "Willie" C. Garcia, 83, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully at home early on Thursday, December 15, 2005. He is survived by Viola, his wife of 58 years; sisters, Sister Marie Amada of Henderson, NV, and Rita Lawrence and her husband, Russell, of Carolton, TX. Willie, who grew up in the Barelas neighborhood and graduated from St. Mary's High School, is survived by five daughters, Maria Garcia Geer and husband, Rod, Cecilia Garcia, Catherine Garcia Scott and husband, Dan, Lara Garcia, and Imelda Francis and husband, Tim, of Chicago, IL; five sons, Michael and wife, Theresa, John of Albuquerque, NM, Stephen of Bozeman, MT, James and wife, Gloria of Denver, CO, and Mark of San Diego, CA; 19 grandchildren: Jennifer Garcia, Lisa Vaughn and husband, Jeremiah, Jessica Garcia, Charles Garcia, Anna Marie Garcia, Robert Garcia, Joaquin Ortega, Miguel Ortega, Javier Ortega, Anna Geer, Leah Geer, Meredith Scott, Lauren Scott, Matthew Scott, Michaela Garcia, Alaina Garcia, Morena Garcia, Sofia Padilla de Garcia, and Lucas Padilla de Garcia; and three great-grandchildren, Christian Garcia, Ryan Garcia, and Kaitlyn Garcia-Allen. Willie had a lifelong love of music, playing the piano and sharing his favorite songs in Spanish and in English with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramoncita and Charles Garcia; his son, Martin; and his sister, Lena Baca. He served honorably in the Army, Coast Guard, and Navy. He retired from the Naval Reserve as a Chief Petty Officer. Willie was stationed in the Polynesian Islands during WWII. One of his many passions was teaching Spanish to students of all ages. He also once received a special assignment during his varied 30-year career at Sandia National Laboratories to teach English to Albuquerque-based Cuban refugees. Willie also took great pride as a frequent reader during Mass at Holy Ghost Church. Pallbearers will be Lorenzo Candelaria, Ray Candelaria, Robert Garcia, Javier Ortega, Miguel Ortega, and Charles Garcia. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, December, 18, 2005, at Salazar & Sons Mortuary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Holy Ghost Church on Monday, December, 19, 2005, at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place at The National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 1:30 p.m. following the Mass. MARESMA -- Gladis Fois Maresma, surrounded by her husband, daughter, son, and his wife, sister, and cousin, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2005. Gladis is survived by her husband, Fernando; her daughter, Adriana; her son, Jose and wife, Kimberlee, all from Albuquerque. Also her mother, Anselma; her sister, Maria Alba; her brother, Salvador Raoul; his wife, Carmen Fois; niece, Natalia; nephews, Jose Fernando, Javier, and Octavio; and numerous friends. She was born in Asuncion, Paraguay, March 11, 1938. She came to the University of New Mexico as a Fulbright scholar in 1962. She received a Master's degree in Latin American Studies in 1970. Gladis was the cofounder of Latin American Programs in Education (LAPE) in 1965. In 1968, she was the assistant to the director of The Ibero-American Studies Center, now the Latin American Iberian Institute (LAII) until 1970, when she became the assistant director of LAPE where she was in charge of the admissions of students from every country in Latin America. In 1992, Gladis was appointed Director of the International, Technical, and Educational Cooperation Office (OITEC), until her retirement in 2002. Gladis was a member of the Aquinas Newman Center on the UNM Campus, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be co-celebrated by Rev. Andrew Pavlak, OP and Rev. PADILLA -- Jose Teodoro Padilla "Teddy Bear" was born May 6, 1932. On Tuesday, December 13, 2005 he went home to be with the Lord. "Teddy Bear" was a lifetime North Valley resident and he honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He retired from the Albuquerque Fire Department where he served for 27 years. "Teddy Bear" was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ramona and he is survived by his children, Lawrence and wife Laura, Carmen and Arturo, Bella and husband, Ruben, Chris and wife, Sandra, Nettie and Joe, Maria and Stephanie, Phillip and wife, Genevieve and Jessica; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Simon (deceased), Juanita, Eliza (deceased), Sr. Barbara, Dolores, Francis, Simon (deceased), Lupe, Pauline and Elena; numerous godchildren and many other family members and friends who loved and will greatly miss him. Visitation and Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW. A visitation and Rosary will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2005. THOMAS -- Jim C. Thomas, USAF Msgt. Retired. Jim, age 81, passed away at home Sunday, December 11, 2005. He was born in Oklahoma and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, having retired in 1968. Jim then worked at the VA Hospital for 15 years and retired in 1986. He was a resident of Belen since 1972. Jim is survived by his wife, Maria Thomas; children, Steve Thomas and wife Karen, Mark Thomas and wife Lavina and Janie Goff; nine grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; one great-great -granddaughter; sister, Joann Tilly and husband Jim; other family members and friends who loved and will sorely miss him. The Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Church Los Chavez, 09 Los Chavez Park Rd., off Highway 314 five miles south of Los Lunas in Los Chavez, on Thursday, December 15, 2005. BROWN -- Mary Lou Brown, 75, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, December 9, 2005. She is survived by her daughters, Marie Keller and husband, Jim, of Ruidoso, Saundra Louise Miller and husband, Edwin, and Amaricela (Patricia) Del Castillo Brown; grandchildren, Anthony DeHart and wife, Louise, Corey DeHart and wife, Katrina, Erika Miller, Preston Frazier all of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren Cineva and Julian DeHart and Michael and Dominic Chavez; brothers, Esau Baca and wife, Maria and Seferino Baca all of Albuquerque; todo su famila grande; and many wonderful friends. LOPEZ -- Linda Mae Lopez, born March 14, 1955, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2005. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert D. Lopez, Sr. and Monica Lopez. Her surviving family members are: two sisters, Rita L. Baca and Viola F. Chavez; one brother, Gilbert Dan Lopez Jr., and wife, Rose R. Lopez; two aunts, Mela Gonzales and Amerlinda Pargas; many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Linda Mae was the angel of the family. All who knew her were blessed by her loving and cheerful personality. Linda will have a grand reunion with her parents in heaven and her Savior Our Lord Jesus Christ. We wish to thank all those who took care of Linda Mae at Santa Maria Mirador in Alcalde and Espanola, NM; at Valle Norte Center and the Copper House in Albuquerque, NM. Each person extended kindness, love, and dedicated service to Linda Mae. We also wish to thank all those who came to visit Linda Mae. We know she enjoyed your visits and will pray for all of us in heaven. Special thanks to Father Anthony Bolman for coming to give Linda Mae special prayers and a blessing.
