IGLESIAS -- MARGARET Age 89, a long time Albuquerque resident, went home to be with the Lord she served for a lifetime. Her transition to glory was July 5, 2012. She lived an abundant life and helped countless people in her life's journey. A native of Chatfield, Minnesota, Margaret attended the Toccoa Falls Institute in Georgia before graduating from Wheaton College in 1945. She then joined Wycliffe Bible Translators and served as a missionary among the Mazateco tribe in the mountains of southern Mexico. While teaching at the Summer Institute of Linguistics at the University of Oklahoma she met Claudio Iglesias and married him three months later in 1949. They served as missionaries in Panama for many years with the Southern Baptist Convention and Wycliffe Bible Translators before leading churches in Oklahoma, Gallup, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. As missionaries in Panama's San Blas Islands, Claudio and Margaret built and established a grade school that educated a generation of future Kuna leaders. Margaret's greatest legacy, however, was helping to create the Kuna alphabet and translating the New Testament into Kuna. That Bible is on display at the Smithsonian's National Institute of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. She also wrote a book, "Messenger to the Golden People" (Broadman Press) in the late 1960s. Fully tri-lingual and tri-cultural, Mrs. Iglesias always lived out her kind and gentle faith daily and ministered to people of all walks of life. Even after her retirement from the Albuquerque Public Schools, Margaret and Claudio led groups of short-term missionaries from Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque to the San Blas Islands in Panama. She was preceded in death by her husband Claudio and her daughter Marina. Survivors include two children, Lorena and Bill Heydenburk and their family of Keller, Texas, David and Cynthia Iglesias and their family of Albuquerque, NM and McLean, Virginia. Margaret had eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Kuna Pastors Association, c/o Carroll Baptist Church, 1280 E. Highland Street, Southlake, TX 76092, 817-488-6900, or www.carrollchurch.org
