RAMIREZ, CATHERINE V. age 76, born May 26, 1938 to Alonzo & Francisca Van Damme of Albuquerque, NM and a resident of Albuquerque, entered into her Eternal Home, Saturday, March 7, 2015. Catherine is survived by her husband, of fifty nine and a half years, Tony P. Ramirez; children, Michael A. Ramirez and wife, Jane, Kathleen Ramirez, JoAnn Montoya and husband, John, Collette Archuleta and husband, Gary; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Catherine was preceded in death by her son, Thomas, and grandson, Jonathan Montoya. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, aunt and friend. Catherine's pride and joy was her family for whom she cooked a Spanish dinner every Monday. She was a loyal servant in the Roman Catholic Community, and was a member of the Franciscan 3rd Order, the Legion of Mary, a Eucharist Minister, and was involved in the prison ministry in her younger years. Catherine taught Catechism and Confirmation for twenty-four years to hundreds of children at Queen of Angels Chapel, Santa Ana Pueblo, and Sandia Pueblo. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 10, 2015 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Aquinas Newman Catholic Center 1815 Las Lomas Rd. NE. Final visitation will be Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at Aquinas Newman Catholic Center . Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Archuleta, Adam Archuleta, Steven Archuleta, James Archuleta, Jacob Montoya, Jerry Sandoval. SIMONS, JACQUES Mr. Jacques Palmer Simons, 77, of Canton, GA passed away March 4, 2015. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on August 5, 1937 to the late Jacque and Helen Simons. Jacques was a very loving husband and father. He had a wicked sense of humor that he passed down to his kids. If Jacques was picking on you, you knew he loved you. He retired from Heidelberg USA in 2001. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodstock. Jacques leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Carolyn Kay Simons; children, Kathleen Sarrell (Gregory), Pamela Medley (Timothy), Matthew Simons (Sheilah) and Theresa Simons; 13 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; brothers, Edgar Simons and James Simons (Linda); and sister, Rebecca Simons (Harry). CHAVEZ, LEE E. Age 87, returned to our Heavenly Father Saturday, February 28, 2015. He was born in Pino Wells, New Mexico. Lee enlisted in the Army in July 1945, awarded with a World War II Victory Medal. Lee leaves to cherish his memories his wife Virginia, sons; James Lee, Armando Rene J, Ramiro J, and Felix, daughter Gloria, brothers; Lorenzo and Herculano, sisters; Ramona, Helen and Juanita, lots of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and other relatives. MONTOYA, ELOY age 96, a lifelong resident of the Village of La Bajada, NM passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015. Mr. Montoya is survived by children, Eloy B. Montoya Jr., Rosella Urrea, Patricia Diane Montoya; brother, Emiterio Montoya Jr.; his grandchildren, Fabrienne, Millicent, Greg, Erick, Gabrielle, David, Jessica, Erica, and Laura; his great-grandchildren, Michael, Tristen, James, Vivien, Adrian, Lorena, Andrea, Erick Jr., Courtnee, Rylee, Ayvree, Michaela, Ethan, Jayden, Elijah, and Isabella; his dog, Buddy; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. GARCIA, MANUEL G. Age 87, passed away on March 4, 2015, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was a WWII veteran, beloved husband for 67 years, a devoted father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was born on December 24, 1927 in La Joya, NM to Cipriano and Contrada Garcia and resided in Albuquerque for most of his life. He was preceded by his parents, sister Viola, daughter Katherine and great-grandson James. He is survived by his wife Amelia Garcia; daughters Susan, Margaret and Louise; brother Frank; sister Bennie; and many spoiled grandchildren. He had tremendous faith in the Lord and could always be found reading his Bible. He was a successful carpenter who built the home where we all come together as a family. He cherished his children and grandchildren and always wanted what was best for everyone. He had a joy for life and loved to sing and play his harmonica to anyone who would listen. He loved being outside working and towards the end he would love to sit outside in the sun and just watch. Services will be held on March 10, 2015 at San Jose Parish (old church). The viewing, Rosary and Mass will start at 9:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of his life at American Legion Post 13. TENORIO, ALICE L. Alice Levy Tenorio, 78, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, March 5, 2015. She is survived by her sons Tony Valdez (Hilda), Eddie Tenorio (Laura), and Russell Tenorio (Michele); daughters Cindy Takei (Tom), and Cecelia Ruelas (James); brothers Benny Valdez (Evelyn), Rosalio Valdez Jr., and Robert Tafoya-Valdez (Petra); sisters Margaret Baca (Phil), and Patricia Diggins (Frank); and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alice's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. at Salazar Mortuary, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church located at 6440 U.S. Highway 550, Cuba, NM 87013, followed by Burial in Cuba New Mexico. GILMAN, JAMES WILBUR James Wilbur Gilman died Sunday, March 1, 2015 in Westfield, MA surrounded by loved ones. Son of John and Amelia Gilman, he was born in Pepperell, MA March 23, 1920 where he graduated from high school in 1938. He enrolled at Massachusetts State College in Amherst, MA where he played football, was Cadet Colonel of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps and took his BS degree in Chemistry in 1942. He married Harriet Kelso of Chester, MA February 27, 1943 and they had two sons, James and Lee. Jim was commissioned Second Lieutenant U.S. Army, Cavalry, and reported for duty at Fort Riley, KS where he graduated from the Cavalry Officers' Basic Course. During WWII he was assigned to the 16th Cavalry Group for the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. In November 1945, he was recruited to be Executive Officer, 3rd Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment and provided all necessary military and logistic support for the Nuremburg War Crimes Trials. During his 26 year Army career he served four tours of duty as a general staff officer in Logistics in the Pentagon, including assignment as South Asia specialist in government affairs for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Jim commanded the 33rd Tank Battalion, 3rd Armored Division in Gelnhausen, Germany, was Deputy Commander of the Cam Rahn Bay Support Command in Vietnam, and was Deputy Commander of the Sentinel Anti-ballistic Missile Command in Huntsville, AL. He was a graduate of the Armored School Advanced Course, Fort Knox, KY, the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Fort McNair, Washington, DC. Jim earned an MBA degree from George Washington University concurrent with attending the Industrial College. Upon retiring from the Army at the rank of Colonel in 1968, he taught intermediate science in Fairfax County, VA schools for six years. In 1974, Jim and Harriet returned to Kelso Homestead Farm in Chester where he planted a blueberry orchard. He greatly enjoyed watching his blueberry dreams flourish. Active in town and community affairs, Jim was elected as a selectman for three years. As a member of First Congregational Church of Chester, he served as deacon, treasurer, moderator and trustee. Jim is survived by Harriet, the love of his life for over 72 years; son James and wife Betsy (Albuquerque, NM), son Lee and wife Bev (Charlotte, NC); grandchildren Chad and wife Laurie (Denver, CO), Connor and wife Char (Denver, CO), Adam (Denver, CO), Annie and husband Matthew Luis (Odessa, TX), Seth (Albuquerque, NM), Michelle and husband Jason Cohen (Oak Park, IL), Jackson and wife Amanda (Memphis, TN); and great-grandchildren Jonah, Ben, Grant, and Emmett. Interment of ashes with full military honors will be followed by a memorial service at First Congregational Church of Chester on June 6, 2015. HOWERTON, HENRY "HANK" IVAN Age 76, of Albuquerque, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 1, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Lorna Howerton; his children, H. Ivan Howerton, Jr., and his wife Sherri, Elizabeth Hatcher and her husband Norman Hatcher Jr., Michael D. Howerton and his wife, Tami and J. Matthew Howerton and his wife Shelly. He also leaves his mother, Zelda Vanderpool; his sisters, Joanie Pack and Bertie Jackson; brothers, Virgil Howerton and Carmen Howerton. He had nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Hank was predeceased by his daughter, Lori Ann Howerton-Falls; his father, James Howerton; his former wife, Mary Ann Dobbs-Howerton; his sister, Betty Howerton; and two brothers, Duane and Larry Howerton. He served for three years in the US Air Force followed by a career of 35 years with the US Forest Service. During retirement, Hank volunteered with the North Domingo Baca Multi-Generational Center as a driver and was a board member of the North Domingo Baca Neighborhood Association. He was also active with NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees) Duke City Chapter 1411. Hank loved fishing, golf, bowling, bingo, football (especially the San Francisco 49ers) and Sci-Fi movies. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends and those he loved. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service in Hank's honor on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. GIBSON, ALMA the daughter of Cecil and Nora (Pryor) Leslie went to meet her Heavenly Father February 14, 2015 after a long illness. She was born on August 14, 1929 in Kokomo, Indiana. Upon graduating from Kokomo High School in 1948, she married Richard W. Bechdol. They had three children and lived in Indiana until 1962 when they moved to Corrales, New Mexico. After divorcing in 1965, Alma worked in both the NM State Legislature and in Governor Campbell's office. Following her years of public service, she became a realtor working for Walker Hinkle and Tom Stribling real estate firms. Alma moved to Southern California in 1979 where she met and married Samuel Gibson, who preceded her in passing. She returned to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1992. In 2005 she moved to Houston, Texas for a short time before returning to New Mexico to live the remainder of her life. Alma is survived by three children - Julia A. Griffith of Houston, Texas, Janet Porter-Carrejo (Andy) of Apache Creek, New Mexico, James W. Bechdol (Shannon) of Helena, Montana; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Alma was preceded in death by siblings - John D. Leslie, Dorothy J. Rinehart, William Leslie, and Steven C. Leslie. Cremation will take place and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015, 2:00 PM, at the Reserve Presbyterian Church with Michael Shriver officiating in Reserve, NM. LERNER, SARA Sara Hammer Lerner, 98, of Rio Rancho, NM, died Saturday, February 28, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5 at Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO followed by burial at Sheffield Cemetery. She was born August 10, 1916 to the late Abe and Esther Hammer, in Kansas City, MO. After graduating from Northeast High School in 1933, she worked as a traveling saleslady for Keller Kosher Foods until she married the late Earl Lerner in 1940. She was a Kansas City area resident until 1990 when she moved to New Mexico where she was an avid elder hostel attendee, a member of the Oasis Singers, a member of the Albuquerque Bio-Park Zoo Boo Board, and a graduate of the Brain Fitness Program. She was an active member of Temple Albert in Albuquerque, NM, a former member of Beth Shalom Synagogue in Kansas City and a lifetime member of Hadassah. She was a longtime volunteer for the Mental Health Association of Johnson County (Outstanding Service Award, Project Breakthrough, 1989), a Democratic poll worker, and a volunteer at Menorah Hospital for a decade. She was an avid basketball fan, following the KU Jayhawks and had a particular fondness for pro player, LeBron James. She loved to cook and feed people. Nothing was more important to her than her family. Sara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Flora Bernstein and Min Halpern, brothers, Carl and Morris Hammer, and her beloved daughter, Dr. Shelly Lerner Burstein. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Arnie Lerner and Nancy Harvin of Corrales, NM; nieces, Andrea Plotsky of Atlanta, GA, and Cathy Cardozo of Kansas City; nephews, Steve Hammer and Michael Halpern of Kansas City; four grandchildren, Jonathan Burstein, Berkeley, CA, Jennifer Burstein, Denver, CO, Nicholas Lerner, Lawrence, KS, and Zachary Lerner, Albuquerque, NM; five great-grandchildren, Jonah and Laylah Podwoski-Burstein, Berkeley, CA, Logan and Aiden Miescher-Lerner, Lawrence, KS, and Phoenix Tracer, Albuquerque, NM, plus her grand-dog, Jessie Harvin.
