LUCERO -- Abad E. Lucero, 100, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma R. Lucero; daughter, Lenore Lucero Miner; grandson, Martin Lucero; brothers, Cipriano and Osmundo; sisters, Flora, Lucy and Aurora; father, Cipriano; and mother, Guadalupe. Abad is survived by his son, Leonard; daughter, Jackie Gutierrez and husband, Ernest; grandchildren, Lisa Henneman, Amy Gutierrez, Allen Miner and Laura Miner; great-grandchildren, Landon Miner, Verity Miner, Nicole, Kevin, and Andrew Henneman; brothers, Joe and Arnold; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. GOODWIN -- B.C. Goodwin Jr., 83, died peacefully October 3, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Mary Lou, children Diane Pierce and husband Rush, John Goodwin and wife Donna, J Paul Goodwin and Donna Diller and husband Larry, 8 grandchildren , Read Pierce and wife Vanessa, Rebecca Martin and husband Aaron, Emily Urban and husband Jerheme, Cason Pierce, Sada Goodwin, Susanna Pierce, David Diller and Lauren Diller and two great grandchildren , Bryant Pierce and Graham Martin, brother John D Goodwin and wife Barbara and sister Sue Aiken and husband Sam and step mother, Artha M Goodwin and many other family and friends. He was a graduate of SMU where he served as student body President and also a graduate of Perkins School of Theology. B C was an ordained United Methodist Minister serving in Oklahoma, New Mexico and West Texas. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held at Friday, October 23, 2009, 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 4th and Lead SW. SOLED -- Risa Soled (nee Usherson) born January 24, 1930, died on October 6, 2009 at age 79. Shoshana bat Leah v'Avraham, was true to her name. Shoshana means, "flower" and Risa means, "to laugh". She radiated joy and made everyone smile. Youngest child of Leah and Abraham, her older brothers Leon, Herbert, and Murray adored her. Harry, her beloved husband of 53 years, was her best friend and companion. They were inseparable and forever young lovers. Loving, warm, patient, generous, caring, nurturing-this was Risa-devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. One never heard an unkind word. She saw the best in others and overlooked the negative. She bravely dealt with the untimely death of her youngest son, Ronald, and the passing of her soul mate, Harry. She was a true Aishet Chayil - a Woman of Valor. Risa grew up in the Midwood section of Brooklyn where she attended the Yeshivah of Flatbush elementary school and Midwood High School. She raised her family there and was active in Hadassah and other Jewish charitable organizations while raising her three children - Teri, Martin and Ronald. Upon retirement, she and Harry moved to Wellington, Florida and after Harry's death, Risa moved to Calabasas, California, her final home with son Martin and daughter-in-law Judy. Risa (Usherson) Soled, is survived by daughter Teri and son-in-law Steve Harper; son Martin and daughter-in-law Judy to whom she was the mother Judy never had; granddaughter Marla and husband Adam Lewkoski; brother Herbert Usherson; and brother-in-law Alex Soled. She is also survived by nieces Sandi, Esther, Judy, Joyce, Sharon and Sheila; as well as nephews Arthur, Robert and Fred. A graveside funeral will be held at the Young Israel section of Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m.

MILLER -- Larry D. A memorial service celebrating the life of Larry D. Miller, 59, of Santa Fe, is scheduled at El Rancho de Las Golondrinas, La Cienega, N.M., at 3 p.m. October 11. He lost a brief battle with cancer on August 17, 2009. Born in Littlefield, Texas, February 13, 1950, to Thomas H. and Maxine Miller, Larry was a Roswell High School graduate. He held bachelor's and master's degrees in Spanish from the University of New Mexico and was fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. Larry worked for The Vargas Project at UNM for 17 years and the National Park Service's Spanish Colonial Research Center, for six years, at his death. He was considered an authority on the Spanish Colonial period. He had recently coauthored a book on Martineztown with Joseph P. Sanchez. Larry was also a blacksmith who demonstrated the craft at El Rancho de Las Golondrinas and elsewhere. Larry is survived by his partner, Lolly Martin of Santa Fe; his mother, Maxine Miller of Roswell; his sister, Beth Morgan of Vado, N.M.; an aunt and uncle, and several cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to El Rancho de las Golondrinas or to the American Cancer Society.

RIVERA -- Robert James Rivera (Jimmy), a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the age of 58. Jimmy was a dedicated employee of the Albuquerque Public School system. He was also a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his father, George Rivera, and brother, Danny Rivera. He is survived by his mother, Angelina Rivera; children, Richard Rivera and wife, Michelle, Tammy Crane and husband, Monte, and Luis Martin and wife, Brenda; brothers and sisters, Helen Romero and husband, Tony, George Rivera and wife, Michele, Gloria Marquez and husband, Tony, Joann Romero and husband, Eddie, Isabel Barela and husband, Joe; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. A Rosary for Jimmy will be recited on Wednesday evening, October 7, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. SEDILLOS -- Barbara C. Sedillos was born July 17, 1932 in Gallup, NM and embraced the loving arms of Jesus on Monday, October 5, 2009. Thank you Jesus for lending us your precious angel for 77 years. You must have known how much her family needed her as you gave her an endless supply of unconditional love to nurture everyone. Her greatest joy was to serve you and the large extended family entrusted to her. She was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to everyone and was one of life's greatest treasures. It pains our hearts to let her go and our lives will never be the same but all knowing Jesus you saw she was tired and called her home to rejoice in heaven with you for eternity. Barbara suffered great loss when her son Richard (Ricky) Sedillos was suddenly and tragically taken in November 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents Juan Jose and Manuelita Chavez; her brothers, Leo Chavez and Tony Baca, her sister Melba Chavez; and sisters in law Julia Gonzales, Andrea Carrillo, and Rosie Bergman. Mrs. Sedillos is survived by her husband of 61 years, Mr. Frank Sedillos; her children and their spouses, John and Linda Sedillos, Frank Jr. (Bosque) and Karen Sedillos, Kathryn (Kathy) and Allen Jaramillo, Robert (Danny) Sedillos, Maria (Lena) and Anthony Trujillo, Barbara Ann Sedillos, Randy Sedillos and Paul (Steven) Sedillos; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her brother, Gilbert Chavez; sisters-in-law, Dolores Chavez, Dolores Mazon and Jennie Sedillos; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. Mrs. Sedillos was anticipating the birth of her newest great-granddaughter due in October. Barbara was devoted, charismatic Catholic. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 4:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at St. Josephs on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Josephs Pl. NW, with a Rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. by Deacon Gilbert Chavez. Final visitation will be Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church with a Communion Service to be held at 11:00 a.m., Deacon Gilbert Chavez, presider. A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joshua Allen Jaramillo, Paul Martin Sedillos, Damion Marquis Sedillos, Isaac Joseph Sedillos, John Joseph Sedillos, Greg Adam Sedillos, Anthony Joseph Santillanes, and Ryan Jacob Santillanes. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Finally, the family would like to extend a special thank you to Barbara's Goddaughter, Gail Lynn, for her calm demeanor, compassion and reassurance during her final transition to Heaven.
