Askins -- H. Harry Askins, 87, died Monday, February 14, 2000. He is survived by his sons, James H. Askins and wife, Julie of Albuquerque and John A. Askins of Las Cruces; granddaughters, Kimberly Ely and husband, Ryan of Rio Rancho and Jennifer Askins of Pueblo, CO; great-granddaughters, Marissa and Breanna Ely, both of Rio Rancho; and sister, Bobbie Edwards of Port Arthur, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lillian A. Askins in November, 1998. Mr. Askins was a lifelong resident of Houston, TX. He was a seasonal resident of Pagosa Springs, CO and had recently moved to Albuquerque this past October. He was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Corps, where he served in Burma, India. Mr. Askins worked with Southern Pacific Railroad and with Railway Express for over 30 years. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2000, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Dushane -- Mr. James Douglas DuShane, 82, a resident of Roswell, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2000, at the home of daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Alfred Vasquez. Mr. DuShane was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Roswell and 43 years a member of St. Mark's on the Mesa Church, while residing in Albuquerque. He devoted 43 years of his life, in Albuquerque, at Van Atta Laboratories and community service with the Elks Club. Mr. DuShane was born August 26, 1917, in Winchester, Virginia, to the late Virginia Faulkner Fuller and James Ross DuShane. Also May Faulkner and Hogan Douglas Fuller, his grandparents. Mr. DuShane is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Glass DuShane; daughter, Virginia D. Vasquez and her husband, Al Vasquez of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Shelly Bergen of Durango, Christopher McAdoo of Tucson, AZ, Amy McAdoo of Albuquerque, and her two children, Ashley and Jakob Pino; son, Douglas Glass DuShane and his wife, Sian of San Antonio, TX and children, Megan and Joshua DuShane. Memorial Service is 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE, to celebrate the life of Mr. James Douglas DuShane. Father Chuck Collins, Father Jim Trainor of St. Mark's Church and Father Bob Williams of St. Andrews Church in Roswell. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the Church Library. Gaither -- Robert Raymond Gaither, 67, a resident of Albuquerque for 28 years, passed away February 12, 2000. He was a member of Elks Lodge #461 for 18 years, serving on the Bingo Committee and Chairman for the last few years. He retired from Roadway Express after 18 years of service. Robert is survived by his wife, Edna Gaither; daughters, Roberta Wagner and husband, James of Destin, FL and R. Lynne Kennedy and husband, Stephen of Victoria, TX; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Scott and Coty Kennedy, and James and Kari Wagner; two sisters, Ramona Wing and husband, Ted of Grand Junction, CO and Jeanette McCracken of Canoga Park, CA; and one brother, Joy Gaither and wife, Merlaine of Palisade, CO. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Funeral Home, with the Elks Lodge #461 officiating. Henry -- James F. (Jim) Henry, 79, died February 13, at Kaseman Hospital after a long illness. The only son of Thomp and Nell Henry, who homesteaded in Northern New Mexico, he grew up in Ojo Caliente, Taos, and Santa Fe. When he was 20, he joined the US Air Corps to serve in WWII. Like so many others of his age, when the war was over he came home and built a successful civilian life. His has been called the best generation. His wife of 50 years, Loretta, preceded him in death in 1992. He was an underwriter for Mountain States Mutual Insurance Company for many years before his retirement in 1993, was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed ham radio as a hobby. (WB5 IYR) He is survived by two daughters and two sons, Sherrie Niedbala and husband, John Niedbala, Judy Breden, Randy Henry and wife, Jimme and Tommy Henry; grandchildren, Chuck, Jack and Kel Niedbala, Tanya Breden Fritts and Tara Breden and Nicole Henry; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Matthew Fritts. His sisters are Clare Henry, who died in 1997 and Pat Lockhart. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Yvonne Gale and Betty Vanderwell and nephews, Roberts, Charles and James Digneo and Bill and Mike Lockhart. We would like to offer a special thank you to his primary caregivers, Pat Lockhart and Tara Breden, whose tireless efforts allowed our dad to remain in his home the last 2 1/2 months. Carrillo -- Sister Marie Carrillo, SSND, entered into her Glory February 13, 2000. She was born on December 3, 1942. Sister Marie was preceded in death by her father, Meliton Carrillo; her brother, Dennis Carrillo; her sister-in-law, Ronnie Carrillo; and her sister, Lora L Carrillo. She is survived by her mother, Adelaida Carrillo; and brothers, Filo, Milton, and Paul and wife, Theresa; sisters, Evelyn Montano and husband, Isidro, Alice Corley and husband, Eddie, Sandra Madrid and husband, Lucio, Minerva Morgan and husband, James, Terry Nevarez and husband, Jose Luis, Jackie Molinar and husband, Daniel; and sister-in-law, Connie Carrillo; special Goddaughter, Monica Carrillo; and 21 nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and nephews. Burial services will be held at St. Mary's of the Pines in Chatawa, Mississippi. Fisk -- Viva K. Fisk, 70, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951, died Monday, February 14, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Clifford J. Fisk; daughter, Karen Fisk; son, Brian Fisk; grandson, James Fisk, all of Albuquerque; sister, Bertie Maudsley and husband, Wells of Salt Lake City, UT; brothers, Robert Bentley and wife, Colleen of Roy, UT and Vance Bentley and wife, Jane; aunt, Lucille Houston of Pena Blanca, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fisk graduated from high school in Arvada, CO in 1947 and it was there she met Clifford Fisk. She and her family moved to Salt Lake City where she attended BYU and the University of Utah until her marriage on August 25, 1949. In 1951, Viva and Clifford moved to Albuquerque and she attended UNM, receiving her Bachelors, Masters, and PhD in English. She was a lover of music and enjoyed gardening, animals, and collected approximately five thousand books. She loved TV, especially her collection of videos. For almost 15 years, she had been working on a book, Myths and Legends of the Western World, which she worked on right up unto her death. She felt a great attachment to New Mexico because of family ties that led back to her childhood (Sam Houston family of Cuba, NM). She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Services will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
