Bachmann -- Arthur Lewis"Bachy" Bachmann Sr., 79, a longtime resident of New Mexico, passed away Monday, December 23, 2002. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before joining the US Army where he served in the European and Pacific Theaters during World War II. Mr. Bachmann was, at one time, a stonecutter and bricklayer, but he pursued his love of music, playing in many local establishments including Sandia and Kirtland Air Force Base. He was considered one of the finest jazz guitarist in Albuquerque, and many families will remember him as the kindly banjo player at Shakey's Pizza Parlor at Louisiana and Central for 15 years. He was a member of the musician union locals 142 and 618 since 1941, resigning recently. Mr. Bachmann was married to Madelon Hammer in 1943. They celebrated their 59th anniversary on Sunday, December 22, 2002. He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Madelon; his daughter, Linda L. Smith; six grandchildren and spouses, Deanna and Bill Hoak, Julie Yearout and Bryan, Billy G. Smith, Arthur L. Bachmann III and Kari, Matthew Bachmann and Melissa, Jamie Jordan and Shawn; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Caitlin, Blaine, Kaylee, Jordyn and Sadie; daughter-in-law, Mary Bachmann; two sisters, and his many friends in Albuquerque and Las Vegas, NM, where he lived for 13 years. In later years"Bachy" enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling with his wife. In his spare time he enjoyed his hobby of woodworking. He was preceded in death by his only son Arthur L. Bachmann Jr. in November 2001, and his son in law Bill G. Smith in July 2002. His talent, kindness, humor and wonderful smile will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be eld by Father David Kline, at St. Charles Borromco Church, 1818 Coal Place SE, Saturday, January 18, 2003, at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at 11:00AM. Gibbs -- Della Mae Gibbs, 68, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away January 5, 2003. She is survived by her children, Mavis Gaskin-Dorrell of Rio Rancho, NM; Phillip Gibbs and Robert Gibbs, both of Cuero, TX; Lula Gibbs, Donna Lemons, Zina Gibbs, Felix Gibbs, all of Albuquerque, Joelene Jones of Phoenix, AZ, and Faedra Johnson of Carlsbad, NM; 20 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and her stepfather, Rev. J.M. Lewis and wife, Sis. Virgie Lewis of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lula Lewis and her son, Joseph Gibbs Jr. Visitation for Della will be Thursday, January 9, 2002, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Merritt -- Mary"Fran" Merritt, 80, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away December 31, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ray Merritt; sisters, Catherine Daucher of Winter Springs, FL and Myrtle Shryock of Jemez Springs, NM; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James D. McNeill, of Sanford, FL, and Lewis R. McNeill, of Red Springs, NC. Fran was a volunteer for 27 years for Family Support at Kirtland Air Force Base. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Friday, January 3, 2003, 3:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo NE, 265-5959.

Kelly -- Robert P. Kelly. The Kelly family is saddened to announce the death of Robert P. Kelly, beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. Bob's gifts to us have been many. His virtue and generosity, his consistency and skill, his profound love of God, wife, family, and friends--through these Bob has inspired us all. Those of us who looked to Bob as a source of strength know how his presence will be missed and how his spirit will continue to thrive in everything we do. Robert Parker Kelly was born on July 17, 1929 in Highland Park, IL to Tom and Ita Kelly. A resident of Albuquerque since 1943, Bob graduated from St. Mary's High School and attended The University of New Mexico. For over 40 years, he worked at Sandia National Laboratories, where his duties included department manager of both labor relations and security; he retired in January 1992. Bob was an avid Notre Dame football fan and an avid golfer who once won the Kelly Golf Invitational, an annual event he relished. He was a respected member of Annunciation Parish for over 40 years, where he acted as a lector, a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of both the Social Concerns Ministry and of the Companions on the Journey. The great joy of Bob's life was his large and devoted family, which includes his wife Dolly, his seven children and their spouses (Bob and Barbara Kelly; Jane and Jim Blankenship; Mike and Marianne Kelly; Pat Kelly and Lori Hunt; Brian and Julie Kelly; Dan and Suzanne Kelly; Matt and Marianthe Kelly), his fifteen grandchildren (Jennifer and husband Phil Lewis; Crystal, David, and Jonathan Kelly; Sarah, Sam, Mary, and Leah Blankenship; Meghan Kelly; Sophie, Aidan, and Catherine Kelly; Camille Kelly; Jane and Claire Kelly), and his two great-grandchildren (Arwyn and Alhana Lewis). Smid -- James Smid, 50, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, December 26, 2002. He was born in Albuquerque on April 5, 1952. James graduated from Valley High School and attended NMSU. He was employed as a Railroad engineer for Berlington Northern Railroad at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence; and brother, Vernon. He leaves to morn his passing his wife, Odelia; mother, Frances; two brothers, Ronald and Randy; one niece, Nicole Smid; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
