GONZALES -- Mr. Pablo O. Gonzales died Sunday, June 6, 2004 in Albuquerque at the age of 74. Mr. Gonzales served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict. During his career he worked for the Albuquerque Public Schools and retired in 1991. Mr. Gonzales was very active in the community. He served as a former president of the East San Jose Association and of the East San Jose Seniors Association. During his service to the community he was awarded "Person of the Week" by a local television station. He was also given an award by Woodmen of the World for being a community leader. Mr. Gonzales is preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Aurelia Gonzales; brothers, David and Ernest Gonzales; and sister, Dorothy Gonzales. He is survived by his wife, of 48 years, Lugardita (Lugie) Gonzales; children, Dorothy Sauceda and husband, Remijio (Joe), Louis (Steve) Gonzales, Eileen Johnston and husband, Jay, Matthew Gonzales, and Chris Gonzales; brothers and sisters, Lita Gillespie, Adolph Gonzales, Susie Martinez; and Wilfred Gonzales; and his grandchildren, Remijio Jr. and Sophie. A Rosary for Mr. Gonzales will be recited on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday also at St. Francis Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mannie Luna Jr., Gilbert Martinez, Ernie Martinez, Michael Gillespie, Gene Griego and Freddie Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Shirley Griego and Paulette Gonzales. HEREFORD -- Col. J. Pierce Hereford USAF (Ret.), 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Sunday, June 6, 2004. He was born in Nevada, MO on October 15, 1916. Growing up in the Ozarks during the Depression, he learned the value of hard work. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and exploring the surrounding rural areas. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State College in 1940, then attended the University of Nebraska, 1940-1942. There, he met and married the former Mary Erna Motl, who preceded him in death on September 3, 2001. From March until July 1942 he was a weather instructor at Basic Pilot School, Randolph Field, Texas. Thereafter, he joined the Office of Strategic Services, with which he remained until the War's end. During July to August 1946 he was on active duty with the Air Force; he returned to active duty in July 1947, after receiving a masters degree in geography from the University of Nebraska. After qualifying as a navigator, he flew in B-36, B-29, and B-47 aircraft. In 1958, still on active duty, he returned to the University of Nebraska, earning a doctorate in geography two years later. He was then assigned to the Air Force Academy as associate professor of geography, a position he held until a stroke forced his retirement in June 1962. Colonel Hereford retired with his family to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1964, where he engaged in the real estate business. Actively interested in the treatment of stroke victims, he was the founding president of the Albuquerque Stroke Club. He is survived by three children, Joseph Jr., David, and Martha Scott, and five grandchildren. MULLER -- Joseph A. Muller, born on February 22, 1962, died on June 4, 2004. He is survived by his longtime companion and best friend, Yolanda Apodaca, and by his four sisters, Susie Gotte (Mike) from Montana, Patsy Medina from Colorado, Bette (Jane) Porter, Henrietta Pargas (Tony); and two brothers, Ruben Muller and John (Larry) Muller (Marie) of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his mother, Leonela; his father, Albino; and his brother, David. Services will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Albuquerque, on Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at 10:00 a.m.

GREGORY -- Adelaide Dorcas Self Gregory passed away Friday, June 4, 2004, in Albuquerque. She was born November 7, 1914 in Tupelo, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ross and Sabra Self of Portales; her husband, John Virgil Gregory, long time professor of education at Eastern New Mexico University, sisters Ruth Payte and Hazel Self of Lubbock, Texas; and by her three brothers: R.E. Self of Elida, Vaughter Self of Silverton, Texas, and Boyd Self of Alamosa, Colorado, all of whom were World War II combat veterans. She is survived by her four children: John of Salmon, Idaho, David and wife Allison of Santa Fe, Susan Gardenhire and husband Gene of Albuquerque, Sinda and husband Larry McCaffery of Borrego Springs, California; seven grandchildren: Rhonda DeHaan, Laura Gregory, Stacey Walker, Tiffany Andre, Mark Ross Urton, Rebecca Ferguson, and Kyle Hahn; daughters-in-law Rita Gregory and Valeria Allen; sisters-in-law Dollie Self of Elida and Audrey Gregory of Oklahoma City; four step-grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Adelaide graduated from Quitiquae High School, Quitiquae, Texas, as valedictorian of her class and went on to receive a B.A. and M.A. from Texas Tech University. She taught English in public schools for forty-five years, the last twenty-five of which were at Portales Junior High. She loved her students and strove always to guide them towards happy and productive lives. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Portales. Upon her retirement in 1979, she continued a vital life enjoying weekly bridge games, daily walks, time with her children and grandchildren, community activities, traveling and her rabid devotion to the Democratic Party. Possessed of tremendous energy, she gave unselfishly to family, friends, and the Portales Community. In recent years she often let it be known that her one hope was to live long enough to see another Democrat in the White House. Pallbearers will be John Gregory, David Gregory, Mark Urton, Gene Gardenhire, Larry McCaffery, Guy Strunk, Bob Strunk, James Derrill Cody, Matt Ferguson, and John Gentry. Honorary pallbearers are Ocie DeHaan, Joel Ferguson, Dave DeHann, John Walker, Tim Andre, Joe Ross Self, and Joe Alan Self. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 7, 2004 at Wheeler Mortuary, 500 East Third, Portales, NM.

MUSCARELLA -- Dr. Gandolph Muscarella, 91, a resident of Albuquerque died on Wednesday, June 2, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rose; son, Vincent A. Muscarella, MD, his children Vincent, Gregory and wife Kendra; Damian C. Muscarella and wife Anita, their children Jeffrey and Robert; and Gary C. Muscarella D.D.S. and wife Debra, their children Christina and husband Christopher, and David, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Connie Muscarella, brother Phillip, and sisters Laura and Connie. Gandolph and the former Rose Jelso were married on August 8, 1934 in Rochester, NY. The first years of their marriage were spent in Buffalo, NY where Gandolph worked for the U.S. Postal Service before graduating from the University of Buffalo School of Dentistry. He started his dental practice in Buffalo in 1948. In 1959 he and Rose moved to Albuquerque where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1971. Dr. Muscarella's memberships include Knights of Columbus 4th degree, the Elks Club, the New Mexico and American Dental Associations, Capt. USAF during the Korean War, Canisius College Sculling Team, and Risen Savior Catholic Community. Rosary will be recited on Sunday, June 6, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 7, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gate of Heaven Mausoleum Chapel with Father Dino Candelaria celebrant. SAN MIGUEL -- David S. San Miguel, age 48, beloved son and brother was called home to be with our Heavenly Father, on Thursday, June 3, 2004. He was born in Tucumcarri, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque. David was a very loving and caring person. He is survived by his loving mother, Lillian San Miguel of Albuquerque; his father, Phillip San Miguel; a brother, Gilbert San Miguel; two nieces, Sarina and Nina San Miguel; and nephew, Gilbert San Miguel, Jr. David will be greatly missed by his loving family. MEYERS -- Richard (Dick) Mark Meyers, 53, died June 1 at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs. He was born November 5, 1950, in Los Alamos, New Mexico, to Wilbert and Mary Hoefer Meyers. He is survived by his eldest son, Christopher Scott, and grandson, Karlan; a son and daughter-in-law, David Joseph and Nicole, and grandson, Jakob - all of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Other survivors are his parents of Albuquerque; two brothers, Dr. James Meyers of Louisville, Kentucky, and Robert Meyers of Albuquerque; three sisters, Lynn Perkins of Topeka, Kansas, Carole Steward of Los Alamos, and Janice Meyers of Colorado Springs. Dick served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Viet Nam war, being stationed in Okinawa. After his Marine Corps service he obtained a BS in Economics from the University of New Mexico and worked for the Four Corners Regional Commission in Santa Fe. After the Regional Commission was disbanded, Dick enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and obtained a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. After graduation he was ordered to Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama, where he was responsible for significant upgrading of the electrical utility system at the base. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force with the rank of Captain in 1986. He then moved to Colorado Springs to work as a Federal employee at the Cheyenne Mountain NORAD facility, where he was a project manager for the strategic defense systems upgrade. The family will have an Open House at Dick's residence on Sunday, June 6, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm for his friends and co-workers. A memorial service and inurnment will be held Monday, June 7, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, followed by an informal gathering of remembrance at the Valle Caldera National Monument. The family requests no flowers; instead, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
