BURRIS -- Lloyd L. Burris, 1st Sergeant, (Ret.), U.S. Army, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, June 6, 2004. Lloyd was born Friday, August 31, 1928 in Queen City, Texas. He served in Korea and Vietnam and served in the Army for 26 years. Lloyd was an avid volunteer with the Republican Party and numerous military affiliations. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Burris; son, John M. Burris of Phoeniz, AZ; one brother, John Roy Burris; two sisters, Virginia Pelot and husband, Dave and Mary Lou McKeever and husband, Mike all of Portland, OR; and various other family members outside the state of New Mexico. Services will be held on Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Paul Cassidy, Maty Garcia, David Garcia, Steven Garcia, Vincent Rivera, Tristan DeSantis and Wes Provoost. HEREFORD -- Col. J. Pierce Hereford USAF (Ret.), 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Sunday, June 6, 2004. He was born in Nevada, MO on October 15, 1916. Growing up in the Ozarks during the Depression, he learned the value of hard work. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and exploring the surrounding rural areas. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State College in 1940, then attended the University of Nebraska, 1940-1942. There, he met and married the former Mary Erna Motl, who preceded him in death on September 3, 2001. From March until July 1942 he was a weather instructor at Basic Pilot School, Randolph Field, Texas. Thereafter, he joined the Office of Strategic Services, with which he remained until the War's end. During July to August 1946 he was on active duty with the Air Force; he returned to active duty in July 1947, after receiving a masters degree in geography from the University of Nebraska. After qualifying as a navigator, he flew in B-36, B-29, and B-47 aircraft. In 1958, still on active duty, he returned to the University of Nebraska, earning a doctorate in geography two years later. He was then assigned to the Air Force Academy as associate professor of geography, a position he held until a stroke forced his retirement in June 1962. Colonel Hereford retired with his family to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1964, where he engaged in the real estate business. Actively interested in the treatment of stroke victims, he was the founding president of the Albuquerque Stroke Club. He is survived by three children, Joseph Jr., David, and Martha Scott, and five grandchildren. JONES -- Norma L. Jones, longtime Albuquerque artist, died peacefully on June 6, 2004 after a long recurring illness. Norma moved to Albuquerque in 1963 and traveled extensively around the world as an adult. Her paintings have been described by critics as analogous to poetry and music. She won numerous awards at competitions and shows throughout the West. She was an avid skier, dancer, hiker and gardener. In addition to her many friends, Norma is survived by a sister, Ruth of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Ilah and son, David of Albuquerque; daughter, Linda Campbell of Vienna, VA; three grandsons; a niece and a nephew. We will miss her gentle spirit and her inspirational zest for life. A gathering of friends and family is scheduled for Friday, June 11, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Church of Religious Science at 3320 San Pedro NE. LUJAN -- Angela Diana Lujan, "Chantel", 37, passed away on June 6, 2004. She was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on July 5, 1966. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Lujan; her parents, David and Alicia Gallegos; a daughter, Amanda Utter-Lujan; a sister, Evelyn Forsyth; a brother, Joe Vasquez; a grandchild, Carlos Flores; her grandmother, Neva Benavides, and a large extended family. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, June 9, at 7:00 p.m., and Mass will be on Thursday, June 10, at 10:00 a.m., both at Queen of Heaven. MAISEL -- Gertrude (Jerry) Bradley Maisel went to be with Jesus, her Savior and Lord, June 5, 2004. She was born October 22, and all who know her know that is all we can say (about her age). She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Albert L. Maisel. She leaves behind her loving family including her daughter,Sandy and husband Tom Dunn; son, Skip Maisel; daughter, Shelley and husband Jeff Dyleski: grandchildren, Greg Dunn and wife Kirsten, Reed Dunn and wife Sandra; Tanner, Cassidy, and Skyler Maisel; Tracy and Luke Dyleski; great-grandchildren, Tommy, Jackson, Montana, Emese, Jodi, Isaiah; Emma, Grace and William Dunn. She had many beloved nieces and nephews, and she had her very loving caregivers Damiana Quintana, Susan Stewart, and Jennifer Lopez. We rejoice with her as she worships at the feet of Jesus. The memorial service will be in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at 10:30 a.m.with Pastor David Bruskas officiating. MOYA -- Mr. Joe Moya, 68, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on June 7, 2004. Mr. Moya is survived by his beloved wife of forty-eight years, Catre; his children, Bessie Romero and husband, Alfred, Doreen Moya and Carlos Gonzales, Sammy Moya and Connie Moya; two sisters, Grace Tenorio and husband, Vinente and Sylveria Urbina and husband, Andres; six grandchildren, Amy, Richard, Johnathon, Nicholas, Delilah and Marlissa; four great-grandchildren, Geraldine, Josephine, Tomas and Andrew; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Moya was a member of the Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday evening at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Trini and Valerio Lucero. Final visitation will be Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. in the Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m., a Franciscan Friar will preside. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Romero, Johnathon Moya, Nicholas Salazar, Alfred Romero, Ruben Jaramillo and Joe Jaramillo. SORCE -- Anthony J. Sorce, a longtime resident of Rio Rancho, died on June 6, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer with his loving family by his side. Anthony was born in West Allis, Wisconsin on February 28, 1924. He moved to Rio Rancho in 1970. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pauline; his four children, Dorothy, Michael, Linda, Marie; his 4 grandchildren, Eva, Nicole, Jennifer, David; and his two great-grandchildren, Aaron and Caleb. The family would like to express their appreciation to all of the friends and relatives who were so supportive during his illness. They would also like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at Presbyterian Hospital and especially those from Vista Care for their caring and compassionate way of taking care of Anthony. Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vista Care Hospice. BABB -- David Daniel Babb, 75, died on June 4, 2004 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Sara W. Babb; a sister, Elaine B. Chastain and her husband, Dr. Richard Chastain of Amarillo; a brother, Burton A. Babb and wife, Eleanor Babb of Dallas; a brother-in-law, Dr. John Wilhelm and wife, Ann of La Plata, Maryland; two nieces and many nephews. David was born and raised on the east coast. He graduated from MIT in 1950 with degrees in electrical engineering, and later with a graduate degree in physics. He worked in those fields for 40 years. He first came to New Mexico in 1960 and retired here in 1990. David enjoyed skiing, golf, exploring New Mexico and jeeping in Colorado. Special thanks go to Frank Torres M.D., to Michael Bivin, R.N., the staff at AmberCare Hospice and the staff at Montibello Health Care for their support and good care. Very dear friends Robin Johnson and husband David Wilson are much appreciated for helping to provide Dave with his daily cigar for many months. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial with family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the NM Boys & Girls Ranch at 6209 Hendrix Rd NE, Albuquerque, 87110.
