Chavez -- Benito Roger Chavez, 68, was pronounced dead on August 1, 1998. He was born on December 29, 1930 and lived most of his life in Albuquerque. He is survived by his daughter, Anjala Chavez; his grandson, Angel Chavez; his sons, Ron and Brian Chavez, all of Albuquerque. After completing service in the Navy, Benito operated"Ben's Food Bin", a South Valley grocery store. Later in life, he derived pleasure from both vegetable and flower gardening. Another interest he had was in the local chili market. He supplied chili and produce to his many friends. Benito loved animals and had an especially deep attachment to his dogs. His presence will be missed. A Rosary will be recited by Charles Aguilar on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 1818 Coal Place SE. Mast will follow. Burial of cremated remains will take place Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Peacock -- Dorothy V. Peacock, 72, passed away August 17, 1998. She was born in Gallup, NM and graduated from Albuquerque High School. She is survived by her husband, Howard S. Peacock of Albuquerque; daughter, Vicki Coffey and husband, Matt of Chandler, AZ; son, Jeffrey L. Peacock and wife, Darla and children, Kevin and Stephani of Port Orchard, WA; sister, Norma Moore of Elizabeth, CO; and other in-laws, including Phil and Juanita Eyer of Albuquerque, L.B. and Eloise Taylor of Las Cruces, NM, Charles F. Bennett of Fallbrook, CA, and Barbara Peacock of Silver City, NM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a favorite charity. Cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving friends and family on Friday, August 21, 1998, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at the family home. Services will then begin at 12:00 noon. Spicher -- Susie D. Spicher, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Thursday, August 19, 1998. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles Oscar Spicher, whom she married on January 26, 1938; son, Charles Russell Spicher and wife, Mary of Albuquerque; and daughter, Brenda Susan Risenhoover and husband, Roger of Wynnewood, OK. She was the grandmother of Amy Risenhoover of Ft. Worth, TX, Carrie Cleaver and husband, Daniel of Tulsa, OK, Kimberly Spicher of Little Rock, AR, and Ian Spicher of Albuquerque. Mrs. Spicher was born on October 15, 1911 to Daniel Webster and Josie Cole Dupree of Coushatta, LA. She graduated from nursing school at Louisiana State Sanitorium in 1935. Mrs. Spicher worked as a nurse at Presbyterian Hospital during WWII. Services will be held Friday, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Butler -- Olive Louise Butler, 81, a longtime resident of Albuquerque and former resident of Belen, died Friday, August 14, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Howard O. Butler of Albuquerque; son, Raymond Eugene Tuley of West Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Linda Louise Butler of Albuquerque; brother, Charles W. Space and wife, Mary Ann of Mexia, TX; sister, Virginia Johnston of Belen; and cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold G. Space. Services will be held Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with Pastor Jerry Farr officiating. Interment will follow. Filvin -- Charlotte Jane Filvin passed away at home on the evening of Friday, August 14, 1998. A resident of Albuquerque for the past 42 years, she retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1975. Survivors include Leon Filvin, her husband of 45 years; her brother, Dr. Charles Shaw; two nephews, Charles Shaw III and Harry Shaw; and two great-nieces, Eva and Anna Shaw, all of Baltimore; a nephew, Harold Ginsberg of Coral Gables, FL; and nieces, Phyllis Silberman and Beverly Cartridge of Phoenix. Also surviving is her best friend, Thamer Vann of Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place under the care of Sunrise Society of New Mexico, (891-8200).

Quintana -- Cristobal Quintana, 83, a longtime Albuquerque resident, died Saturday, August 15, 1998 in San Diego, CA while visiting family. Mr. Quintana was born June 3, 1915 in Cuervo, NM to Manuel and Quiteria Quintana. He was reared and attended school at Cuervo. He worked as a young man at Bond and Weist General Store in Cuervo and also in the Moise Bros. Store in Santa Rosa. He served as parts manager at Central Motor Company and service clerk at Santa Rosa Hardward, both in Santa Rosa. He also drove a fuel delivery truck in Santa Rosa for Alton Harden Conoco. Mr. Quintana retired after 20 years as Warehouse Manager for Frito Lay. He married Mary Dolores (Lola) Maestas on October 3, 1940 at New Kirk, NM. They made their home in Albuquerque in 1969. Chris was a loving husband, father and grandfather devoted to his family. He had many friends, loved to talk sports and was a great fan of Albuquerque Dukes Baseball. Chris was a member of the Elks Lodge in Las Vegas, NM; Past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus in Santa Rosa; and a past President of the Santa Rosa Lions Club. He was a lifelong Catholic and member of Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe Quintana; and a sister, Rosario Chavez. Survivors include his wife, Mary Quintana of the family home; two daughters, Josephine Marez and husband, Pete of Santa Rosa, NM, Charlotte Shaw and husband, Jerry of Albuquerque; two sons, Jerry Quintana of San Diego, CA and Herbert Quintana and wife, Judy of Eugene, OR. Also surviving is a sister, Carmen Chavez of Albuquerque; and a brother, Pat Quintana of Santa Rosa; along with eight grandchildren, Peter, Paul, and Patrick Marez, C.J. and Katrina Quintana, Charles, Dennis, and Janet Shaw; and four great-grandchildren. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, 1998, from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 1998, from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM, with Father Sotero A. Sena, Celebrant of the Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa, NM. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Peter, Paul, Patrick, and Pacen Marez, Charles and Dennis Shaw. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Chavez Funeral Home, 923 S. Third Street, Santa Rosa, New Mexico, (505) 472-3369.

Layton -- Joseph John Layton, 48, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away July 24, 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Shafer. He is survived by his children, Louis Layton and wife, Aimee, Bobby Layton of Albuquerque, Desiree Layton, Dominic Layton and Joe Layton of Los Lunas; five grandchildren, Adrian, Christopher, Nicolas, Jacob and Christel; one sister, Naomi J.
