Obituary for Peatfield

Captain Helen Kay Peatfield, 88, born on October 6, 1913 in Chester, CT, passed away on November 23, 2001. She lived a long beautiful life and touched everyone who knew her. After graduating from Chester High School, she attended St. Francis Nursing School in Hartford, CT, receiving her nursing degree. During WWII, she served as an Army surgical nurse in a MASH unit with the 11th Evacuation Hospital. She attained the rank of captain while serving her country with steadfast dedication. While stationed in North Africa, she met Colonel Norman E. Peatfield, a young army doctor. They were married at the end of the war at a Children's Hospital in Germany and honeymooned in Chamonix, France. She spent the next 25 years as an army wife traveling the U.S. and abroad with her husband and family. Her husband was promoted to Brigadier General on his last assignment as director of CHAMPUS at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, CO. Upon retirement they spent the winter months in Florida and the summer months in Maine. In 1996, her beloved husband of 50 years passed away and she came to reside in Albuquerque, NM, to be near her daughter, Gail CdeBaca and husband, Tom and grandson, Eric. She is also survived by her daughter, Joanne Rideout and husband, Paul; grandchildren, Charles, Paula and Sandra and 11 great-grandchildren. Those around her know what a truly special lady she was. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered. Services will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment to take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit on Monday, November 26, 2001, at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
