Obituary for Higginbotham

Ewell Edward Higginbotham, Jr., 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Sunday, May 20, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Glenna Higginbotham of Albuquerque; daughters, Carolyn Cleveland and husband, Tom of Elephant Butte, Gloria Gooch, Kathryn Higginbotham, Sue Bercovitch and husband, Steve, and Ellen Gilbert and husband, Joe, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Shannon Doran, Greg Gooch, Tawny Statzer, Jenny Gilbert, Lynzee Gilbert, Joey Gilbert, Philip Bercovitch, and Matthew Bercovitch; great-grandchildren, Kassidee Statzer, Emily Statzer, Alina Gooch, and Juliette Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Cahill and brother, George Higginbotham. Mr. Higginbotham was a very generous, kind, and loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him. He was born in Sherman, TX where he graduated from high school. Mr. Higginbotham attended Texas A & M. He married Glenna Allen on July 19, 1941. He entered the United States Navy in which he proudly served until his honorable discharge in March of 1946. After his discharge, the family moved to Los Alamos where he was a security guard at AEC until going into the moving business in 1953. They moved to Albuquerque in 1957 purchasing Dalton Mayflower Moving and Storage. In 1965, he purchased part interest in Ralston Oil Company from which he retired in 1982. He loved playing golf all around the world and made a hole-in-one at Four Hills Country Club. Hig enjoyed playing seniors baseball, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Four Hills Country Club and First Baptist Church. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2001, 4:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 934 Menaul with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Pallbearers will be Matthew Bercovitch, Philip Bercovitch, Steve Bercovitch, Joe Gilbert, Joey Gilbert, and Tom Cleveland.
