Obituary for C De Baca

Col. Leo C de Baca, U.S.A.F. (Ret.), 77, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, May 21, 2001. He is survived by his loving bride of 59 years, Henrietta C de Baca; daughter, Marsha K.B. McGuire, both of Albuquerque; grandchildren, 1st Lt. Ryan T.B. McGuire and wife, Jennifer of the NMANG, Rory L.P. McGuire of San Mateo, CA and Mindy R. McGuire of Albuquerque; brothers, Nathaniel C de Baca, Jr. of Albuquerque, Miguel A. C de Baca of Long Beach, CA and Fernando C de Baca and wife, Cecilia; sister, Lucy C. Nunn and husband, Frank, all of Albuquerque; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Col. C de Baca was born in Wagon Mound. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1940. Leo joined the U.S. Air Force in January 1943 and served his country for over 30 years, retiring in 1973. During his career in the service he served as an infantryman, fighter pilot, diplomat, and commander. He served on all seven continents during his years in the military. In his retirement,"Eeo" was a loving grandfather, spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren. Leo and Henri opened Lady Bug Flowers in 1975 and operated it until 1995. He was a member of the Daedalians, 32nd degree Mason of Taipei, Taiwan ROC, and was involved in many civil organizations including LULAC and IMAGE here in Albuquerque. He was also a lifelong member of El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church. Leo loved singing and was an original member of the Albuquerque French Boy Choir. He is now bolstering the tenor section of Heaven's choir. Services will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m., at El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church, 700 Granite Ave. NW. A reception will be held at the Knights of Columbus, 609 14th Street SW, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and all are welcome. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
