Mary Cooper, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2001. She was born August 4, 1912 in Pryor, Oklahoma and as a young child made the journey with her late parents, Oscar and Clara Mae Bassett, to homestead in Venus, NM, now known as Edgewood. The eldest of six children, she took on many family responsibilities, including caring for their widowed mother for many years. Throughout her life as long as she was able, she continued the role of caregiver. Surviving are sisters; Linnie Malott of San Dimas, California, Eunice King of Amarillo, Texas; brother Carl Bassett of Edgewood; sisters-in-law, Loyce Fullingim of Albuquerque and Iona Patton of Morgan Hill, California. Buster, her beloved husband of 66 years, preceded her in death three years prior, but in the same month and day, May 16, 1998. Their son, Ray preceded her in death on May 27, 2000. Surviving are daughters; Vivian and husband, Ron Ohnleiter of Albuquerque, Beverly and husband, Doug Davis of Ft. Worth, TX; and daughter-in-law, Janie Cooper of Albuquerque. She was a loving and devoted Grandmother to; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Mary was also Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She captured many hearts and was loved by everyone involved in her care. Many new wonderful people came into her life during her illness, and her daughters wish to express their gratitude for the loving care given Mary, and for the compassion and support shown to them during this difficult time.
