Obituary for Harrell

Daryl Harrell, 69, passed away late Friday evening, July 27,2001, at his home west of Portales of an apparent heart attack without pain or suffering. Mr. Harrell was born on July 25, 1932 in Clovis, NM. Mr. Harrell grew up on a farm in the McAlister community. After graduating from high school in Melrose, he attended college for a short time at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. He soon enlisted in the Air Force where he served in the Military Police. After his discharge he completed a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Education, and later earned a master's degree in Psychology. He taught for about 5 years in both the community college and the public schools in Carlsbad before joining the F.B.I. For a number of years he was employed by the Albuquerque Public Schools as Chief of Security. Since his retirement from the schools, he has been working as a therapist in Clovis and Portales with Mental Health resources. He was a Clinical Specialist, specializing in the areas of substance and drug abuse. He was a private pilot for many years and a member of the ALPA. Several years ago he was named in Who's Who in America. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Reagan Harrell. He is survived by his longtime companion, Roxie Joyner of the home in Portales; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike Harrell of Durango, CO and Mark and Kim Harrell of Albuquerque; a daughter and a son-in-law, Deena and Todd Nicholson of Woodlands, TX; two brothers and sisters-in-law; Dr. Roger and Dr. Mary Harrell of Asuza,CA and Dr. Joe and Gaye Harrell of Cheyenne, WY; a sister, Bobbie Jean Valentine of San Antonio, TX; and five grandchildren. Funeral services have been set for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ with minister Leslie Earwood. Burial will be at the Portales Cemetery. Dr. Roger Harrell, Dr. Joe Harrell, Mark Harrell, Mike Harrell, Todd Nicholson and John Harrell will serve as pallbearers.
