He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Marion Lucas Rider; son, Allan Rider and daughter-in-law, Debbie of Sandia Park; daughter, Kathy Solomon and son-in-law, Brian of Sandia Park; daughter, Mary Crockett and son-in-law, Fred of Casper, WY; seven grandchildren, Gen Canada and husband, Roy, Jason Solomon and wife, Jennifer, Sarah Erb and husband, Christian, Sue Crockett, Joshua Rider, James Crockett, and Leanna Crockett; five great grandchildren, Jordan, Jenna and Justin Solomon, and Andrew and Jessica Canada; four sisters, Marion Taylor, Sybil Roluti, Winifred Sheldon, Kathryn Hobbs, and brother, Robert Rider. Harold was born in Kansas on March 7, 1903. His family moved to Colorado when he was a teenager, and they farmed in the Salida, CO area. While living in this area he also worked for a time at the mines in Silverton, CO. In the 1920s, Harold and his brother Robert went to work as cowboys on a ranch in Wyoming. His parents moved to New Mexico and started farming in the Sandia Park area. They were struggling to make ends meet, and Harold moved to New Mexico to help them farm in 1930, and made New Mexico his home. Harold met Marion in Sandia Park where they were married in 1940, and together they raised three children. In 1947, when conditions became too dry to farm, he went to work for the Campbell Farming Corporation and managed the San Pedro Land Grant where he raised cattle until he retired in 1975. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, raising tomatoes, playing with his grandchildren, and taking drives up the Sandia Mountains with Marion. One of his favorite pastimes was to work in his orchard on his old Ford tractor. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2001, 3:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Roy Canada officiating.
