Obituary for Brake

Betty McKim Brake, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 of complications from heart disease. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Brake, Jr,; and her parents, Frank and Anna McKim. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth and Mary Brake of Chicago, IL, and Susan Brake of Albuquerque; son, William Brake and wife, Lynda of Corrales, NM; sister, Lee Brown and husband, Richmond of Central Lake, MI; and grandchildren, Terrance and Teressa Brake and Jonathan and Joshua Kern. Betty was born in Gallup, NM and was valedictorian of Gallup High School. She received an AS degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and a BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Chicago. Betty was one of the first female members of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories, where she worked from 1955 until 1985. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to a favorite educational charity.
