Obituary for Lee

Bernice Earl Lee, born January 17, 1911 in Tatum, OK, peacefully passed away in her sleep on July 17, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Williams and husband, Juan; grandson, Darryl Nathaniel Williams; two granddaughters, Juandria and Lacia Williams. Mrs. Lee grew up in OK where she earned her bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Langston University, and later received her Master’s Degree at Emporia State University in KS. She taught school in OK for many years and for a few years in Germany. She was preceded in death in 1971 by her husband, George Nathaniel Lee, a career US Army enlisted man. In 1974 Bernice took an early retirement from teaching in Lawton, OK and moved to Albuquerque with her daughter and family. While in OK, Mrs. Lee and her family were active members of Barnett Chapel AME Church in Lawton. Upon arriving in Albuquerque, she became a member of Grant Chapel AME Church where, for a while, she was a member of the missionary society and served for many years as a stewardess. Services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2001,10:00 a.m. at Grant Chapel AME Church, 7920 Claremont Ave. NE. Interment will take place Monday, July 23, 2001 in Lawton, OK following a graveside service. Friends may visit Friday, July 20, 2001, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE
