Obituary for Hopping

Harold Wayne Hopping departed this life Tuesday, October 30, 2001. He was born July 12, 1935 in Grainton, NE to William J. and Zelma G. Hopping. Mr. Hopping moved with his parents to Maxwell, NE at the age of 3 and attended Maxwell schools until he entered the U.S. Navy in 1952. He was stationed on Guam and served aboard the U.S.S. Noble. After his discharge in 1956, Mr. Hopping returned to North Platte, NE. Wayne was united in marriage to Doris E. Adams on June 28, 1958. They resided in North Platte, NE until moving to New Mexico in 1963 where he worked as a diesel mechanic for the Detroit Diesel Dealership. In 1972, the family returned to Nebraska, moving to Oberlin, KS in 1974 where Wayne owned and operated Hopping's Diesel Service. Due to ill health, he closed his shop in 1987 and returned to Albuquerque in 1990. Wayne was active in Lions Club while in Kansas and New Mexico. He is survived by his wife, Doris; three daughters, Dorene and David Norris of Azle, TX, Gwen and Joe Weishapl of Rio Rancho and Connie Hopping of Arlington, TX; one son, Timothy Hopping of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren, Kirby Norris of Azle, TX, and Chris and Kezia Slinker of Rio Rancho; three sisters, Beulah Phifer and Verna Taylor, both of North Platte, NE and Dolores Mitchell of Coeur dŁAlene, ID; one brother, Clifford Hopping of North Platte, NE; many nieces, nephews and other family members; and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Pinkston; three brothers, Allen, James and Edward Hopping. Cremation has taken place and memorial graveside services will be held Monday, November 5, 2001, at 11:00 a.m., at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
