Obituary for Newborn

Melvin Newborn, 53, a resident of Grants died, Monday, August 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Bobbie Newborn of Grants; sons, Sheldon Eric Allen and Trever T. Allen and wife, Tanner; daughters, Maronda Chenault and husband, Daniel and Jeanean Newborn; eleven grandchildren; brothers, Joe Elliot Newborn of New York and Johnny Nelson; sisters, Lillie B. McClellean and Betty Joe Newborn all of Tennessee; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Milan. Melvin started his Christian walk in 1990 at the God's House Church in Albuquerque. He was very active in the prison ministry where he ministered to prisoners. He was also active in ministering in many churches in New Mexico. He grew up in Bolivar, TN until he graduated High School and moved to New York where he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for 5 years. He moved to New Mexico in 1976 and in 1993 he and his wife opened Melvins Barbeque in Gallup, NM where he enjoyed working with the people and serving them. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Friends may visit French Mortuary-Westside, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW, Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday at Jones Groves Baptist Church in Hickory Valley, Tennessee. Interment will take place at Jones Grove Cemetery.
