Obituary for Garcia

Richard S. Garcia, 78, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Sunday, November 4, 2001. Richard was born in Tajique, NM to the late Frank and Emelia Garcia; he was a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church; a proud Veteran of the United States Army, who served our country during World War II; he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Richard was a Deputy Sheriff of Torrance County during the 1950's. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ricarda (Rich) Garcia-Montez; and a grandson, Chris Maldonado. Ricahard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Candy Garcia of the family home; his children, Lucille Maldonado, Gloria Giarratano, Daniel Garcia, Steve Garcia, Patrick Garcia, Clarence Garcia, and Nadine Garcia; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Julian, Alex, Jerry and Mariano Garcia; four sisters, Peggy Anaya, Amy Anaya, Frances Herrera, and Rita Sedillo; and numerous extended relatives. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at San Antonito Catholic Church, in Tajique, NM. Interment will follow at the Tajique Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Pat Maldonado, Marcos Valencia, Derik Montes, Steve Garcia Jr., Sal Chavez, and Jack Chavez. Honorary bearers will be Danny Garcia and Tony Maldonado. Funeral services are entrusted to Alameda Mortuary, 9420 Fourth Street NW.
