Obituary for Armstrong

William Alexander Armstrong, 76, of Albuquerque, died at home on Monday, September 24, 2001. A gathering of friends and family in memory of Mr. Armstrong will be held at The Greens of Rio Rancho on Sunday, September 30, 2001, at 7:00 p.m. Call for directions, 897-1758. Mr. Armstrong was born September 15, 1925 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He served in World War II, 86th Black Hawk Division, both in Germany and later in the Philippines. He completed his engineering degree at Iowa State College, and enjoyed a 37 year career with the Cadillac Division of General Motors in Detroit, MI as a Future Design and Development Engineer. Mr. Armstrong held several patents for his designs. Once retired, he and his wife, Jan, moved from their home in Grosse Ile, MI to Albuquerque in 1991. He pursued many interests including silversmithing and golf and continued with his hobbies as a writer and historian. He and his wife were also active in the local GM Retiree Club. William is survived by Jan, his wife of 49 years, his two sons; Michael of Grosse Ile, MI and Daniel of Grand Haven, MI and by his two daughters; Terri and Nancy, both of Albuquerque, NM and his two grandchildren; Chelsea and Ethan of Grand Haven, MI. He is also survived by two sisters; Arlene Jennrich of Wilmette, IL, and Esther (Peg) Hill of Norman, OK. He was preceded in death by his only brother, Lt. Robert Armstrong, who was killed in World War II in the 9th Air Force in Europe. Memorial contributions may be made to Lovelace Hospice or to the American Lung Association, Albuquerque branch.
