Obituary for Lucero

Robert O. Bob Lucero passed away Sunday, February 4, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anna; brother, Max Lucero and wife, Virginia; sisters, Antonia Mares and husband, Jenaro, and Clorinda Lucero; stepsons, Bill Mataya and wife, Doreen, and Phillip Mataya and wife, Pat; stepdaughters, Betty Chepin and husband, Joe, and Paula Spitale and husband, Guy, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mr. Lucero was preceded in death by his parents, David and Aurelia, Lucero; brothers, David, Arthur and Isaac Lucero. Bob was born on May 6, 1916 and was reared in Dawson, NM. He served in Battery F, 200th Coast Artillery, Anti-Aircraft during WW II. He served in the Philippines, was captured by the Japanese on April 9, 1942 and was on the Bataan Death March. Bob was a prisoner for 3 years. He was a life member of American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor Organization, American Ex-Prisoners of War, Disabled American Veterans, and Elks Club. Bob belonged to Albuquerque Chapter No. 1, American Ex-POWs and Bataan Veterans Organization. Services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2001 at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. Pallbearers will be William Mataya, Joe Chepin, Jamie Hoffman, Bill Hoffman, Mike Tixier, Jason Spitale, Mark Mataya and Paul Lucero. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all former Prisoners of War. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Albuquerque Chapter No. 1, American Ex-POWs, c/o Mary Montoya, 6932 Vivian Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109 or to Bataan Veterans Organization, c/o Agapita Silva, 1820 La Poblana Rd.
