Mrs. Celestina (Sally) Chavez, born January 14, 1925 in San Pedro, NM, passed away after a lengthly illness on January 27, 2001. Mrs. Chavez was a member of the San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church for many years. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Merejildo and Abelina Gonzales, her husband, Justo Chavez, daughter, Virginia Chavez Vialpondo, brothers, Uvaldo Gonzales, Claudio Gonzales, Gilberto Gonzales and Moises Gonzales, and sister, Elsie Castillo Cortez. Mrs. Chavez is survived by her sons, Larry Chavez, Richard Chavez, Waldo Chavez and wife, Stella; daughters, Mary (Tonilla) Lucero and husband, Arthur, and Jeanette Sanchez and husband, Hector; sister, Dora Rodriguez of Whittier, CA; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mrs. Chavez will be held on Wednesday at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Concilio de San Pedro Cemetery in San Pedro, NM. Pallbearers will be Gary Lee Chavez, Angelo Lucero, Gabriel Chavez, Eloy Vialpando, Anthony Castillo and Al Anzures. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Rosary for Mrs. Chavez will be recited on Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at San Felipe Church. Arrangements by Salazar & Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW.
