Obituary for Ludi

Tony Ludi Sr., 71, a life long resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away on Thursday following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael D. Ludi, his parents, William T. Sr., and Veneranda Ludi, a brother, Robert"Bobby" Ludi, and a sister, Pita Madrid. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Ludi of Las Vegas; two daughters, Patsy Gordon of Roswell, NM and Ruthanna"Tana" Bonny and her husband, Mitch of Las Vegas; four sons, Tony Ludi Sr., Steve Ludi, Chris Ludi and friend, Joyce and John"Caboose" Ludi all of Las Vegas; two brothers, William Ludi Jr., and his wife, Pina and Charles Ludi and his wife, Margaret all of Las Vegas; two sisters, Lila Baca, and Anna Marie Archuleta and her husband, Richard of Las Vegas; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Tony worked for Rainbo Baking Company in Las Vegas for 28 years. He was a member of the E. Romero Hose and Fire Department for 41 years serving as Fire Chief for 35 years. During his tenure as Fire Chief he was instrumental in building a new Fire Department for Exceptional Children. These children were very dear and close to his heart. In honor of his retirement from the Fire Department, the Christmas Party was named after his grandsons, The Daniel Michael Bonney Annual Christmas Party for the Exceptional Children. Tony was also involved in politics. He served as County Commissioner for San Miguel County. He also served on the West Las Vegas School Board in 1987. He was involved in the building of the West Las Vegas Middle School. He was also a member of the Consolidation Committee for the consolidation of East and West Las Vegas. He was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #408, and the Knights of Columbus. He was nominated and chosen for"Who's Who in the West" in 1976-77 for his outstanding achievement in contributing significantly to the betterment of contemporary society. Tony was a successful businessman. He owned and operated Ludi's Fire Equipment since 1963, serving northeastern New Mexico in maintaining and servicing fire safety equipment for 38 years. A Visitation will be held Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in St. Francis Chapel at Gonzales & Cremations, 2315 Hot Springs Blvd., Las Vegas. A Rosary will be recited Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 9:00 a.m. from the church.
