Dee C. Dodson, age 88, passed away January 26, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born April 9, 1912 in Lamb County, Texas, the fifth child to Ben A. and Daisy Brewster Dodson, who were among the first settlers of that county. Mr. Dodson was raised on a dry farm near Olton, Texas through his high school, where he was an outstanding athlete. In the 1980's he wrote an autobiography of those early years entitled"Deetales" which brought him some claim to fame on the plains of West Texas in his retirement years. Dee's career started with some years at the Soil Conservation Service, and ended with some more years there. In between came World War II and careers as a Court Reporter in Pampa, Texas. A Congressional Administration Assistant to Walter, Rogers, US Congressman. In 1955 he decided to move back to the wide open spaces of the West, and moved his family to Albuquerque where he operated Dee's Dairy on 6th and Copper. After some years, he decided that the hamburger business wasn't this forte. Mr. Dodson was a self educated man, teaching himself higher mathematics, genetics, Spanish, typing and shorthand. He also read the"Harvard Classics" and memorized the"Rubyat" just for fun. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Dodson of the family home; one son, Ben Dodson and wife, Marlene of Albuquerque; two daughters, Rebecca Stewart and husband, Ken of Texarkana, Texas and Carol Dee Ledon and husband, Octavio of Las Cruces; one sister, Martha Rebecca Thomson of El Paso, Texas. Other survivors include nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. At Mr. Dodson's request cremation will take place and a Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in Grace Church, 6901 San Antonio NE in Albuquerque.
