Gino Carli, 77, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2001. Beloved by family and friends for his quick wit, kind heart and insatiable curiosity, Gino will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a first-generation American, born to Italian immigrants and raised in New York City. Recognized early on for his exceptional intelligence, teachers handpicked Gino to attend the prestigious Stuyvesant High School, where he graduated with full academic honors. Later, Gino attended the University of Kentucky. With his trademark focus and determination, he graduated in three years with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1952, he moved to Albuquerque and began a long and dedicated career with Sandia National Laboratories. As a Department Manager, Gino played an integral role testing equipment and designing information systems. After his retirement in 1990, Gino devoted his time to civic involvement, travel, and his favorite sport, golf. Among his several causes, Gino was active in initiating state legislation for tougher DUI laws and volunteered his time fixing donated computers for use in public schools. His favorite interests included jazz, good food and lively conversation, but his greatest love of all was his family. Gino Carli will always be cherished and remembered by his devoted wife, Patricia; his sons, Louis and Chris; his daughters-in-law, Christine and Tricia; and his grandson, Joseph. Gino was a member of John XXII Catholic Community. Mass will be celebrated Friday, December 21, 2001, 11:00 at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge NE, with Father Arkad Biczak, Celebrant. French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
