Obituary for Moffett

Eugene L. Moffett, 42, a lifelong area resident, died Monday, December 17, 2001. He is survived by his mother, Margia L. Moffett; brothers, Mount Taylor Moffett and wife, Dolores, all of Belen and Arthur R. Moffett and wife, Tommie of Clovis; sister, Hazel Chavez and husband, Dennis of Bosque, NM; nieces, Lisa Thompson and husband, Mike, Naomi Jackson and husband, Shane, Alesha Moffett and husband, John, Lila Moffett and Aurora Moffett; nephews, Richard Moffett and Zuriyel Moffett; great-nieces, Jessica and Lithany; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his dad, Mt. Taylor Moffett in June 1986. Eugene, disabled from birth with cerebral palsy, won an ťability countsť essay contest shortly after graduation from Belen High School in 1977 that enabled him to attend the University of New Mexico. Eugene was named the most outstanding young man in America (1982-1983). He graduated from UNM in 1984. He served as a student senator working on better opportunities for the disabled. In 1986 as a New Vistas Independent Services Coordinator, he was central to the development of a handicapped transportation system for Belen, his hometown, which was to be a statewide model. He was a writer who used voice recognition software to put down his thoughts. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Thursday, 1:00 p.m., at the residence of Ben Moffett, 900 Green Acres Lane, Bosque Farms, NM.
