Obituary for Landis

W. Calvin Landis, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1935, died Friday, March 14, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Bessie Mae Landis of Albuquerque; sons, Calvin Landis of Martinez, CA, Dr. Kerby Landis of Walnut Creek, CA and Troy Pults and wife, Phyllis of Yukon, OK; daughters, Donna K. Clayton of Glendale, AZ, and Reba Renner of Bremerton, WA; sister, Bessie L. Johnson of Albuquerque; brother, John B. Landis of Sacramento, CA; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Mr. Landis was born on a homestead ranch in Fields, NM Territory, which is 35 miles NW of Clovis. He traveled by covered wagon to Clovis three or four times a year to buy staples. He moved closer to Clovis and finished school there in 1931. Mr. Landis was a manager of Safeway stores before the war and worked as a railroad brakeman and conductor in Belen, NM, during the war years. He was an earthmoving contractor since 1966 retiring when he was 86 years old. Mr. Landis was a founding member of FFA of America and longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church having served in various offices in the church. Memorial services will be held Monday, March 17, 2003, 1:00 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3715 Silver SE, with Pastor Tom Beach officiating. French Mortuary 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE 275-3500
