Obituary for Llewellyn

Harry Llewellyn, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, January 23, 2003. He was born in Indianapolis, IN in 1917; he came and fell in love with New Mexico in 1950 and became a permanent resident of Albuquerque since 1959. Mr. Llewellyn served in the HQ 12th Air Force during WWII. He served overseas in North Africa and Italy from 1942 through 1945. During the war he received two Bronze Stars and the American Defense Service Medal. After returning from the war he attended the John Herron Art School at Indiana University where he received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in 1949. Mr. Llewellyn moved to Taos, NM in 1950 and worked as an artist and sign painter until 1952. He met Patty Smith in 1956 in Indianapolis and they were married that same year. He returned with his family to New Mexico in 1959. He worked as a structural sign contractor from 1959 until 1997. Mr. Llewellyn helped design several of the radio towers on the Crest. He loved cooking, fishing, the outdoors, and had a great appreciation of the art of living. Because of his love of football, in his spare time, Mr. Llewellyn coached Young American Football for over 30 years. He belonged to Temple Lodge #6 A.F. and A.M., the Scottish Rite, and the Ballut Abyad Temple of New Mexico. He also was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Club B.O.E.P. and the VFW. Mr. Llewellyn is survived by his wife, Patty Llewellyn; his son, Mark and his wife, Diana; and two grandchildren, Rhys and Trent. Friends may visit French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, Wednesday, January 29, 2003, 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Following visitation, Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel.
