Obituary for Esparza

Andrew A. Esparza, 83, a resident of New Mexico since 1920 and a resident of Albuquerque since 1945, died Wednesday, January 22, 2003. He was born November 10, 1919 in Morenci, Arizona. Mr. Esparza was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore Esparza; son, Paul Esparza; brothers, Salvadore, Tony, Nieves and John Esparza; and sisters, Severa Diaz, Nestora Esparza and Antonina Esparza. He is survived by his son, Leon Esparza and wife, Sue; daughter, Dolores Dee Esparza; son, David Esparza and wife, Janet; grandchildren; Nathan, Jenna, Cathy and Matthew; sisters, Mary Chavez, Cecilia Sandoval, Genevieve Saucedo, Jenny Placencio and husband, Tom and Lena Talamante and husband, Lawrence; brother, Joe Esparza and wife, Betty; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Esparza was retired form the U.S. Postal Service in 1981 and U.S. Air Force Reserve as a Chief Master Sergeant. He was the first New Mexico USPS Automated Service Technician. Mr. Esparza was a very proud member of the Flying Tigers of World War II, having served in China, Burma, India Theater with the 14th Air Force, 308th Bomb Group, 374th Bomb Squadron (heavy). Until recent years he was an active participant in the 12th street Senior Citizens Center and a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, 14th AF Association and CBI Local Association. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Father Matthew Strabala reciting. Mass will be celebrated Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will take place Monday, at 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Orlando Esparza, Ernie Esparza, Andrew Dominguez, Tony Brozena, Nate Esparza and Matthew Esparza. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Sunday, 4:00 p.m. to Rosary.
