Obituary for Roberts

Irwin Herbert Roberts D.V.M., 90, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, January 20, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Roberts; daughters, Nina Roberts and Alexandra Roberts. Dr. Roberts was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 10, 1912, and was a 1933 graduate of Alfred University. He received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Cornell University in 1937. Shortly thereafter he joined the United States Department of Agriculture and traveled extensively as a research parasitologist. Dr. Roberts received special federal awards for his applied research, especially for his significant contributions to the eradication of scabies in sheep and cattle. In 1962 he became the director of the USDA Agricultural Research Service Animal Parasite Research Laboratory, south of Albuquerque; a position he held until his retirement in 1976. Private interment will take place at the Congregation Albert section of Fairview Memorial Park. His family asks that his friends remember him in their hearts and prayers.
