Obituary for Gatewood

Arthur P. Gatewood Jr. died Thursday after a long struggle with lung disease. He was 64 years old. Art has been a life long resident of New Mexico. His loves in life included foremost his family, his love for God, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. He enjoyed racing sprint cars, boating, fishing, and camping. Art graduated from NMMI and went on to UNM. He married Darlene Gatewood in 1963. He worked many years as a parts manager for Cummins Southwest and was known by many people for his 25 year business of selling Christmas trees. He then moved his family to Moriarty to become a hard working pumpkin farmer. After his health became compromised he sold his farm and spent the remainder of his life in Rio Rancho, NM. Art has been a very strong Catholic all of his life. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Gatewood; wife, Darlene Gatewood; his children, Keith, Debbie, and Pamela Gatewood; grandchildren, Teddy, Kevin, Jazzmin, and Kayla Gatewood; great-grandson, Preston Gatewood. His siblings include Gloria Hultiene, Linda Haughey, Robert Gatewood, Phillip Gatewood, and many nephews and nieces. My dad has many friends that love him very much. Thank you so much to all of you that helped him and loved him through this painful time as his life came to an end. My dad is walking through beautiful gardens with his Lord and family in heaven. We will miss him dearly. Rosary, Wednesday at St. Thomas Church 1502 Sara Rd. Rio Rancho at 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass following at 11:00 a.m.. and burial at Fairview Memorial Park.
