Obituary for Johnson

Joe Brown Johnson, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Good Samaritan Village in Socorro, NM. He was born November 2, 1907 in Acworth, GA to Minera Cicero and Lou Ella Johnson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Virginia Ione Johnson; daughter, Bona June Gray; and granddaughter, Michele Umphenour. He is survived by his son, Joseph J. Johnson and wife, Jean of Socorro; daughters, Iola Nichols of Mound City, KS and Kathy Hall and husband, Tom of Los Alamos, NM; brothers, Eules, Lamar and Roy; sisters, Leila, Nellie and Thelma; sister-in-law, Vivian Beasley and husband, Earl and daughter, Gail; grandchildren, Michael Nichols and wife, Marlene, Yvette Banta and husband, Michael, Jeri Gray, Carol Caldwell and husband, Lucky, Robin Earnest and husband, Rod, Joseph D. Johnson, Rusty Gray and wife, Julie, Susan Stephens and husband, Damon, Ronnie Hall and wife, Marge, Bonnie Clay and husband, Marc and last but not least, Sean Hall and wife, Carole; 37 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and many more family and friends. Graveside Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd., Albuquerque, NM on March 18, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Pallbearers are Michael Nichols, J.D. Johnson, Rusty Gray, Ronnie Hall, Sean Hall and Shane Banta. Honorary Pallbearers are Lucky Lew Caldwell, Zachary Nichols, Ryan and Justin Harwood, Joseph A. Johnson and son, Joseph, Jesse Stephens, Grady Gray, Zachary Gray, Elliot Clay, Tommy Hall, Jake Hall, Dillan Luke, Sammy Luke, Joseph Luke, Ronnie Hall, Adam Umphenour, Ashton Pieta, Tyler Darra and Julian Tapia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joe Brown Johnson's name to the Alzheimer's Unit at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, 1203 Hwy 60, Socorro, NM 87801. He retired after working 22 years as the head grounds keeper of Los Alamos Public Schools. He planted much of the grass that Los Alamos children still play on today."We love you, dad, you're with mom now".
