Obituary for Hawkins

Raymond R. Hawkins, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, March 16, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Charlta A. Hawkins of the family home; son, R. Richard Hawkins II of Santa Clara, CA; daughters, Valerie Peavey and husband, Fred of Richmond, TX and Denise West of Bloomington, IN; stepson, W.R. Bill Humphries and wife, Carol of Lindrith, NM; five grandchildren, Michael Peavey, Brandon Peavey, Christopher Hawkins, Heidi Humphries and Cheryl Knight; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Hawkins attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy and received his Marine Engineer Degree. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and later retired from the United States Navy as a Lieutenant, J.G. Mr. Hawkins was a member of The Cathedral Church of St. Johns since 1984 where he served on the Vestry. He retired from the railroad having served as President and General Manager of Kentucky & Indiana Terminal Railroad Company and Director of Labor Relations, Southern Railway Company, Washington, D.C. He later became an independent Arbitrator and was a member of the National Association of Arbitrators. Mr. Hawkins was also a member of the Albuquerque Rotary Club. He graduated from the University of Louisville, KY, School of Law, J.D. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at The Cathedral Church of St. John, 4th Street at Silver SW. His remains will be interred in Louisville, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Foundation Inc, Babson Center, Kings Point, NY 11024 or to the charity of your choice.
