Obituary for Hatfield

Everette Hatfield, born May 3, 1925 in Hardy, KY, died comfortably in his home in Albuquerque, NM, Wednesday, March 26, 2003 after a prolonged illness. Everette is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia Damron Hatfield; sons, William A. Hatfield of Plano, TX and Larry E. Hatfield of Blanding, UT; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Everette and Virginia have resided in Albuquerque for over 33 years. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1967. During this period, he served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. His last sea duty was aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. He served with VB 110 during World War II and participated in the Anti-Submarine Warfare Campaign, D Day Invasion, and numerous missions over occupied Europe. His shipboard service included duty aboard the Naval Aircraft Carriers USS Wright, USS Siapan, USS Enterprise and USS Kitty Hawk. Lt. Hatfield served in numerous Naval Air Squadrons worldwide. Everette had also served as the Senior Chief at the U.S. Navy's elite Test Pilot School. He was on the cutting edge of the United States Navy's transition to jet aircraft. Everette held every enlisted grade in the United States Navy and retired a Commissioned Officer. His many awards and decorations include the Air Medal and Air Combat Crewman's Wings with Three Gold Stars. His wife, family, friends, neighbors, and military will miss him.
