Obituary for Vogel

John"Jack" D. Vogel Jr., 84, of Charlottesville, VA died Wednesday, March 19, 2003. He led a full robust life. His humor and wit combined with his sense of humor endeared him to all he met. He was known as"Grandpa Joke" to many of his grandchildren. His resounding laugh would make everyone in the vicinity want to know what had just been said. He retired from the State Commission on Alcoholism, after working for many years in the banking business in Albuquerque including The Bank of NM and Citizen State Bank. Jack was a well known regular at the Albuquerque Little Theater and the Barn Dinner Theater in the 60s and 70s. He graduated from The University of NM in 1946 after starting college at Washington and Jefferson College in Pittsburgh, PA before WWII. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps and flew bombing missions out of Italy. He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. Vogel, SR. and Mary Elizabeth Ahearn Vogel; two sons, Eric and David Vogel both of Albuquerque; and son-in-law and friend, Richard Patterson of Charlottesville. He is survived by three daughters, Gretchen Patterson of Charlottesville, Lise Gorgone and her husband, David, Blake French and her husband, Bruce all of Albuquerque; one son, Byrnes Vogel and his wife, Ana of Los Angeles, CA; daughter-in-law, Laura Vogel; two sisters, Marion Hartung and Francis Patterson; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Services were private and the family wishes that donations be made to the Albuquerque Heights Club, 8520 Marble, NE or the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place.
