Obituary for Leech

Marian I. Leech, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1937, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2003. Marian was born on January 31, 1912 to Peder and Clara Pederson in Dover Township, North Dakota. She graduated from Trinity Hospital School of Nursing, Minot, North Dakota in 1933. She was recruited to work as the operating room nurse supervisor at the Southwestern Presbyterian Sanatorium, Albuquerque in 1937. She remained in that position until her retirement from Presbyterian Hospital in 1975. Marian was married to Oscar Leech on June 5, 1946 and he preceded her in death on May 28, 1951. She has been an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church since 1940. Marian was preceded in death by her siblings Lillian Reisch, Myrtle Johnson, Gladys Dobson, and Russel L. Pederson. She is survived by sisters Edna McKillop, Monterey, California and Eva Ellis, Billings, Montana, brother Clarence Pederson, Vernal, Utah, and 20 nieces and nephews. Locally she is survived by nephew, Russel D. Pederson and his family. Marian was a devoted friend to Fred and Anita Smith and"Nanny" to their children, Brian Smith and Elisa Baca. She shared her love and laughter with all those around her and wanted nothing but happiness for all she cared for. She will be missed greatly by her family and all who knew her. The family wishes to express their special thanks to the staff of Marler Manor and Zia Hospice for the care Marian received. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Monday, April 14, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School NE.
