Obituary for Burke

Frank J. Burke, 92, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003, in Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by his children, John P. Burke and wife, Pattie of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kathleen Burke Anthony of Albuquerque, Michael F. Burke and wife, Jini of Tucson, Arizona, Joseph K. Burke and wife, Mary Ellen of Broomfield, Colorado, Dorothy Burke Fitz-Gerald and husband, Gerald of Albuquerque, and James P. Burke and wife, Veronica Gay of Tucson, Arizona. Frank is also survived by his niece, Mildred Wall of Gallup; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives, Loneta Johnson Burke, Mary Noonen Burke, and Edith Ashton Burke as well as his brothers, James, Granville and Phillip Burke. Frank was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, on September 14, 1910, to Miles Francis and Edna Kenny Burke. He attended school in Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. He worked at Merchants Bank of Gallup from 1929-1944 as bookkeeper after graduating from Business school. In 1944 he began his long career with New York Life Insurance Company, as the first agent in the western part of New Mexico. Soon thereafter, he founded Gallup Insurance Agency. Frank was a member of the Catholic Church, served on the Gallup City Council 1954-1958, and active in the Amigos of New Mexico, the Knights of Columbus, and the Elks. A Visitation will be held at Rollie Mortuary, Friday, April 4, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The Memorial Mass will be at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Gallup, N.M, Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be the grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Casa Angelica Auxiliary 6040 Vista Campo Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
