Obituary for Hand

Jessie Belle Hand, 95, a resident of Manzano Del Sol in Albuquerque, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 of age related causes. Mrs. Hand was born March 7, 1908, in Cederdale, OK, to Walter and Margaret Harris. After graduating from high school she then received her teaching degree from Oklahoma Territorial Normal School in Norman, OK. She taught school in Fairview, OK. She married Jay Loyd Hand in Taloga, OK on September 26, 1927. In 1939 Jessie and Jay moved to Kelso, WA. Here Jessie worked in the Portland Shipyards during WWII and as a cook in the Kelso area. After retiring, she moved to Veneta, OR then onto Albuquerque. Some of her interests included cooking, crossword puzzles, gardening, quilting, and reading. Mrs. Hand is survived by her daughter, Betty Silva and husband, Lou of Veneta, OR; son-in-law, Loyd Goatcher of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Loyd Hand on September 26, 1954; and daughter, LaDonna Goatcher on December 23, 2000. Services will be held Monday, 1:00 p.m., at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with Chaplain Mark Sutton officiating. Entombment will follow at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum.
