Obituary for Paynter

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday April 08, 2003

Judith (Judy) M. Paynter, January 15, 1938-April 5, 2003, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home following an extended illness. Judy was actively involved in many civic and charitable organizations, serving on the boards of: Villa Theresa Catholic Clinic; Museum of New Mexico Women's Board; the Santa Fe Opera; and the Santa Fe Opera Guild. A longtime friend of Sister Miriam Charles and Sister Pat, Judy recalled when she was elected to serve on the Villa Theresa board, and because she was a member of the Jewish faith, the sisters wanted to insure that this organization was"ecumenical." Judy also became president of Villa Theresa, state president of the Opera Guild, and was active in the Service to Hospice program and Southwest Cares. Following graduation from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, she became a teacher in the Albuquerque Public Schools and was business manager-owner of Ron's Pharmacy in Santa Fe. At UNM, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi national women's sorority. Judy is survived by her husband, Ron, of Santa Fe, whom she married in Albuquerque on June 12, 1959; daughter, Rhonda of Los Angeles, CA; son, Charles of Santa Fe; grandson, Connor Utez of Flowerybranch, GA; sister, Nancy and brother-in-law, David Paxton of Albuquerque; uncle, Robert Nordhaus of Albuquerque; and aunt, Margery Nordhaus of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Minces, and mother, Elizabeth Norhaus Minces. Special thanks go to the Hospice Center for such wonderful care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity or organization of your choice. Services are schedule for 10:00 a.m. at the St. Francis Auditorium on Thursday, April 10, 2003. Arrangements are under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 1399 Luisa Street, 984-8600
