Obituary for Shoemaker

William"Bill" Shoemaker, 55, born in Warren, OH on May 20, 1947, the only child of William F. and Martha E. Shoemaker, died at home on Wednesday, April 9, 2003. Bill was preceded in death by his parents. The Shoemakers moved to Albuquerque in 1952 and Bill attended Monte Vista Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, and graduated from Highland High School in 1965. He participated on the wrestling team. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from UNM. Bill taught in Las Cruces before returning to teach for APS. He started teaching History and Geography at Highland in 1980 and retired on disability in 1998. Bill was an avid"Dukes" baseball fan as well as a supporter of many sports activities at the high school level. For many years he served as an announcer and"bench official" for Highland sports and many sports for the NMAA. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Thursday, April 17th, 4:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, with Pastor Clyde Stanfield officiating.
