Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday April 24, 2003

Billie Royal Swall, a resident of Albuquerque for 46 years, died on Sunday, April 13, 2003. She was born in Philipsburg, MT, on November 20, 1916 to William Watt Royal and Anna Christina Ley Royal. After attending Drummond High School, she went on to Montana Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and graduated with an RN in 1938. She and Jack Ralph Swall were married in 1940 in Great Falls, MT. Before divorcing, they had two children, Heather who died in 1993 and Judith. Billie is survived by two granddaughters and their husbands, Sara Christine Vogel and Sean Vogel and Katherine Royal Webb and Mathew Webb; her triplet great-granddaughters, Hannah Rose, Layna Royal, and Anica Taylor Webb survive her, too. Since they were born on April 17, 2003, they did not get to meet their great-grandmother. Also surviving are her sisters, Dorothy Royal Betts and Helen Royal Kanan, both of Albuquerque and two nephews, William Royal Betts and John Owen Betts. Billie was a nurse for several Albuquerque doctors including Wilkinson, Simms and Floyd and Burris and Cornish. Billie will be remembered by all who knew her as a very strong woman who survived many losses and illnesses. She recalled taking a train by herself to Missoula when she was only 17 to have an appendectomy. She was a aring person and a good friend to many. A member of Central Methodist Church for over 40 years, her Memorial Service will be held there at 3:00 oclock p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2003 In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Enlace or to a program which assists homeless families.
