Obituary for Benavidez

Antonio"Tony" Benavidez, 64, left this world peacefully on Thursday evening, April 24, 2003 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was attended by his loving wife, Doreen, family members, and Staff from the UNM Hospice Center. Mr. Benavidez, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, was born in Montoya, New Mexico on March 27, 1937. He served in the United States Army. He spent his working career as a framing and finish carpenter. He was preceded in his passing by his parents, Policiano and Abelina Benavidez; brothers, Paul and Jimmy; and his son, Patrick Scott. He is survived by his loving wife, Doreen; sons, Paul Anthony and wife, Cindy of Altus, OK and Shawn and wife, Jennifer of Placitas, NM; two brothers, Carmel"Pancho" and wife, Lorraine and Emiterio of Albuquerque; a sister, Patricia of Tacoma, WA; and his wonderful grandchildren, Jacob, Alysa, Jonathan, and Noah. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, 2003 at Sunrise Funeral Options, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE followed by an evening service in the Chapel of Sunrise at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services for Tony will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2003 at Chapel of Sunrise, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE. Rev. Militon Lopez of Healing Waters Ministry will be officiating at both services. Interment will follow at the family plot at the Montoya Cemetery at Montoya, NM. Pallbearers will be Tomas and Mateo Benavidez, Jose (Alvino) Lucero, Allen Boyer, Steve Marquez, and Clint Fadness. The family wishes to express its deep appreciation and gratitude to UNM Hospice staff members, Leslie Carruthers and Diane Longeway.
